Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!
Rules:
- Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.
Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.
Example:

- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
That's all the rules!

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.
I got banned from like a dozen communities I never have, or will ever, interact with cause I don't let the lazy cowards act all smug.
How's trump been doing on Palestine? Really happy we all get to suffer so y'all can enjoy the smell of your own farts!
Fuck every single protest non voting coward!
Yeah, I swear the purity ponies have run amok in so many corners.
As a primary example, I point at Boing Boing before it took its comment section behind a paywall, it had reached The Onion level of absurdities when it came to leftist purity tests, back-stabbing and infighting. It seemed nearly designed (and part of me almost thinks it was co-opted by some kind of psy-op ) to make sure no one would ever vote for Democrats or even associate with liberal ideas, due to the way these fools were behaving.
You can still see their pre-paywall comments for yourself. It's a real study in how not to grow any kind of movement, but, instead, kill it dead. You can assume any dissent was most likely nuked, since they were just that tolerant.
Now, I've been online long enough and around politics long enough to know these very vocal types, even if they are the mods or heavily platformed by the mods, are not the typical liberal or leftist, but if you were young enough or naive enough and this was your first exposure to the liberal or left side of things? You'd be almost immediately turned off, and likely to not vote (or vote third party which in this country is exactly the same thing - a voted utterly wasted) or instead, likely to vote Republican.
Wouldn't be surprised if they're funded by the Koch's. Duck now I'm wondering like those right wing conspiracy nuts talking about soros , difference is my crazy has evidence.
Yeah, it is possible. I'm sure more than a few useful idiots were (are? I don't plan on paying to read comments behind a paywall, LOL) involved in any case. True believers constantly playing stupid games (and with their help, we all get to win stupid prizes) involving Oppression Olympics, Marxist absolutism, lectures on intersectionality, and other completely useless shit.
The original founders had mostly seemed to have left as far as I could tell. Mark Fraunfelder was still around and posting articles; I don't know how much he commented or paid attention to the BBS forums. He seemed to be a rather typical liberal from his other writings and his interests. Interestingly, I'd see the more delusional types mocking him for being white cishet or whatever (basically, not sufficiently ticking enough boxes in the Oppression Olympics I guess) and those comments seemed to stay up, so make of that what you will.
But the inmates running the asylum in those forums? Holy shit, if it wasn't a psy-op being perpetrated by our enemies or by the right, the people running the place are just wildly out of touch, that's all I can say. If it was a psy-op, I'm fairly certain that by moving it to a paywall, it was being effectively shut down, because I don't know who was even using the main site before - ironically, a site partly owned by Corey Doctorow had become quite enshittified with ads.
When it comes to being all lefty maximalist, the notion of moving to Substack was definitely hilarious. I don't know how many of the useful idiots were going to make that leap to become paying members of Substack to continue to read and make comments, LOL, since calling Substack a "Nazi bar" is common currency for them...
