A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

There's more porn than any other form of video. And the porn industry is one of the worst industries. It's abusive and exploitative.
Yet I have never in my life paid for porn. How are they making their money?
Source?
I'd like to know too but I believe they're right.
What industry isn't abusive and exploitative these days?
I kept thinking about it and was like, "What about... No. Wait! No, not that one either..."
Sexually abusive and exploitative?
Yeah, ok.....but only eliminates SOME of the other industries.
For example, you wouldn't think ad sales as a sexually abusive industry. Yet I have it on good authority that google had spez get down on his knees and take cock after cock after cock cumming in his mouth, on his face, in his eyes. And as much as he was gagging, they just kept going. Cum everywhere. Bukake ritual to seal the deal on their AI agreement.
Then angry german women in leather came in with massive strapons the size of a forearm. Ramming every inch into him. As he cried and cried, while she smacked his balls with a ping pong paddle.
What? I thought you guys always said fuck spez?

"It's abusive and exploitative." "Yet I have never in my life paid for porn." .... I think you’ve answered your own question there ....🤷🏼
How come?
Are you saying abuse somehow generates money for them and then they can give away porn for free?
So should I pay for porn to make that industry better? Or just stop watching free porn altogether?
If there's no demand, then there shouldn't be any supply. I.e. if I'm not paying, why do they keep producing it?
Someone must be paying for it, but I haven't met anyone yet who does or no one is willing to admit it.
Most porn sites do run ads!
And I did support a probably independent creator of erotic audio on Patreon once.
I'd argue, that porn is a luxury. You don't need porn to survive, nor for a fulfilling life.
So why feed an exploitive industry when you don't have to? Isn't that causing unnecessary harm?
That's not to criticize the idea of performing erotic scenes to share with other people for sexual pleasure and getting money for it.
I have never ever paid for porn 🤷
I wish I could say I don't watch porn, or only when I pay for it on some more ethical platform.
I find the path of causing as little harm as possible very difficult anyway to always do well, and I don't believe there is any human who does it perfectly.
But I still like to keep my eyes in the right direction and know what's true :)
same way everyone else...by targeting the 10% with 90% if the $.
when you have more $ than you can spend day-to-day, all that's left is buying "experiences". porn offers you a way to experience things/kinks you can't experience irl for whatever reason. then of course as with most vice industries you target vulnerable low-educated populations for steady income
More than CCTV? More than TV? More than streaming? Pretty sure Youtubers upload more slop per day than PornHub does in a year.
