Progressive women when they find out conservative women are genuinely patriarchal and uninterested in feminism
Well. It's tricky. They sure do like the benefits of feminism. But they deny it.
Everyone benefits from feminism ✊
Even the humble rock warbler?
I can’t tell if this a reference, and Google AI can’t either, so either it’s an original thought (gasp) or it’s so obscure it slipped under the radar
I wonder if there’s going to be a black market of unexploited deep memes not yet ingested
Especially the humble rock warbler!
Conservatives only believe what they experience personally so they don't know what feminism has provided for them. They need the privilege taken away to appreciate what feminism does for them.
I would agree with you, except I lived in Texas for a decade, and I saw women vote against themselves multiple times.
I saw Greg Abbott put forward one of the legislative pieces that was the basis for RvW being repealed (the 6 week "heartbeat" bill).
Then I saw the 5th circuit support it.
Then I saw Greg Abbott/Dan Patrick/Ken Paxton/John Cornyn/Ted Cruz get voted in again afterwards. And none of those elections can be blamed on gerrymandering, because they were all popular vote elections.
So yeah, I just think conservative women are true believers who are willing to show up to the polls. Even if it means giving up their own rights.
Because I do not believe that all of those conservative women are rich. They're fucking brainwashed. And they'll continue to be brainwashed because they're too proud to admiy anything else. Even if they're poor af.
Anti-feminist propaganda is a real thing. As a guy I like to think I’m fairly progressive but believed a lot of the hate against feminism even as an adult. The women I knew were “the good ones”.
The thing is it was based on caricatures of feminism, outliers and extremists, and the claim that feminism is no longer necessary. I’m sure those extremists exists and we are closer to gender equality than historically but feminism has helped us all and we do need more of it.
We had children before there was any paternity leave in the US. I must have been complaining that I wished I could spend more time with my newborn, but it was the feminist group at work who went to demand there be paternity leave, because equal is equal and paternity leave helps everyone
The word has been branded "dirty". I met a guy who said he supported equality between genders but wasn't a feminist. I'm like, my dude, that's literally the definition of feminism. It's just wanting equality.
He argued and argued that he wasn't a "feminist".
While still claiming he supported every ideal of feminism.
He insisted feminist were "blue hair girls with nose rings who told everyone they were bigoted and ruined video games".
I blame the bro culture. And specifically Asmongld. That tool.
Invents imaginary women stereotype, and then blames the imaginary women for all his problems and why he has to be misogynist. They drove him to it. These imaginary women are the cause.
It all just gets old real fast.
The problem is they were too successful at it and all too many have that as their definition of feminism. That’s all they know.
I do think a different term might be called for, because that one is lost to many
Someone else will just tarnish any new term. Our best bet is to just educate people what it actually means.
Like how "communist" and "socialism" has been made into a dirty word. And let's not forget the most recent one, "Antifa".
We just have to fight against it. And do our best to correct the misperceptions when we can.
I think it’s because they’re stupid like the “conservative” men they worship
Nothing like a women leader who denounces feminism when they would not be a leader without it.
Yet these “conservative” women enjoy and utilize all the benefits and rights feminism brought them so they’re in fact feminists. Why aren’t they home making sandwiches for their horde of children? Shouldn’t they be seen and not heard? Make it make sense. Definitely some cognitive dissonance going on here.
Especially the career ones , constantly making videos or on talk shows.
Literally goes against conservative views of women. They are supposed to be seen not heard. Their opinions don't matter. They need to step aside for men to lead. They need to prioritize baby making , child raising, cleaning, cooking, and spreading dem legs to their owner.
Progressive women when they find out conservative women are genuinely pro-life.
Pro Fetus. Once the kid is born they couldn't care less. Homeless, starving, sold to traffickers? No problem. As long as they are born first.
Sort of. Dated a pro-life woman who’d had an abortion.
That sounds on par for course. They have a valod reason, but other people that do it don't and are terrible people.
That sounds like a story
Not really. She was pregnant before she was ready to have a kid and aborted it. She didn’t feel like others should be allowed the same grace.
Didn’t even feel particularly bad about the hypocrisy.
Someone will soon link the “Mine Is The Only Moral Abortion” article. Can confirm — it’s real.
Ah, you dated my mother in the 80s, how does it feel to be old af?
Haha, I kid. But legit, when I brought up her hypocrisy, her answer was: "Yes but people have more options now, so they shouldn't be getting pregnant as easily."
And then when I pointed out that only people with access have more options, not poor people, her answer was: "Okay, well, a $15 box of condoms is STILL cheaper than a $300 abortion, so you're still wrong."i
The fucking sheer audacity.
And birth control methods never fail ever. Never.
Sure.....
Bruh, apparently those are statisical anomalies that "don't count" for some reason. As though the fact that it might be fewer women affected makes their suffering less somehow.
I don't get it either. I'm a childfree lady by choice myself, and I don't understand why she's trying to set up a worse future for my niece (and nephews! I'm sure they wpuldn't want to pay child support at a young age either!) Her logic is fucking bizarre.
Where does she live that an abortion os $300
She pulled that number out of her ass. Or it might have been what her abortion cost in the 80s, Idk.
Her "point" (if you can call it that) was that poor people should be proactively planning by using cheaper birth control methods over asking for a more expensive procedure that she doesn't think should be available to begin with.
She completely ignores all the other factors that could come into play between someone strapped for cash choosing condoms/diaphragms/etc versus foregoing them. I also asked if home schooled girls should be made to bear the burden of pregnancy if their parents didnt teach her about safe sex, and of course the answer was "the internet exists."
I've genuinely never met more frustrating people than alt-right Christians.
Maybe sometimes ne can explain the psychology of this... It is boggling my mind.
There was some Republicans woman who came to the university campus I was at to "debate" abortion. She had a lot of straight up lies about the biology aspect.
But she also had previously had an abortion herself.
And she had like 7 kids.
She also didn't think women should be allowed to vote.
But here she was. Using her feminist freedoms to travel around, instead of being home with her kids and husband, to speak lies and harm girls. To take away their right to choose even tho she herself had an abortion.
Rights for me but not for thee.
Here’s the article I alluded to: https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/
I’m not sure it explains it, but it dives into the phenomenon.
My best guess is that it’s similar to how people feel they are good drivers and can use their phones while driving but no one else should. Or driving drunk. “Just this once is okay. I’ll be careful.”
The critical thing to understand is that this isn’t a change of heart. There’s no real regret here. It’s “it was okay for me but not for you.”
Ive had enough run ins with them to know they don't support other women. They are often extreme in their judgments of other women.
