I was a Scout and I never had leaders that were inappropriate thank God, but you best believe that it was basically grooming you for the army. The amount of religious stuff they shove down your throats too, I think we can do better than the Scouts for kids. Let it die
We don't push anything faith related. Our program focuses on awareness of the environment, community outreach, and most of all... Camping!
I'm pretty sure we pay for all of it ourselves. They can keep their "funding". It doesn't reach us anyway.
Yep, same here, we never had any of that religious shit or military shit. It was all about awareness for the environment, community outreach, hiking, climbing, camping, caving. We did a ton, and our leaders where all dads who had their own kids in the program. Everyone of them were previous eagle scouts and had a lot of certs to make it a ton of fun for everyone. It sucks that the program no longer seems like that anymore.
The program is still exactly like that, except now the pedos are kicked out.
Scout Troops can be very different and it all really depends on the people and the community.
My experiences haven’t been overly military, though some scouts from the troop have gone on to join the military. Likewise, we don’t push religion hard, but some of our scouts are deeply religious and others are not.
What I see is a program that at its heart is trying to teach youth about being responsible for themselves, being a good citizen, giving back to the community and country through charitable service, and learning some basic principles of leadership. Where else do youth get those experiences?
I'm pretty sure your experience wasn't typical of most troops.
That's fair, their leaders are generally inappropriate.
