Luxottica is a greedy plague buying up reputable brands like rayban and Oakley , increasing the prices, making shit quality and riding what is left of the reputation to the ground in the name of the shareholders. Doesn’t help that they’re a quasi monopoly on frames…

And a near total monopoly on lenses. Even my local independents carry only luxottica lenses, which simply don’t last. When I was a teenager and generally abusing my glasses I’d get 5 years. Now I’m lucky to have 3 before the coating is falling off “sorry 1 year warranty”.

The blue reflective coating started coming off my Zenni sunglasses this year. I forget how old they are, but I bought them at least a couple years pre-pandemic.

I should quit procrastinating on going to the optometrist and order some new ones. I just hope Zenni hasn't enshittified in the interim.

Last few Zenni I've got have been great

Well that's a relief!

...Oh wow, they still have some $7 ones, too. I'm surprised inflation didn't end that years ago.

Anybody got a suggestion for where to get a cheap eye exam? Stupid "luxury organs" not covered by medical insurance...

Because I have progressive lenses, my optician discourages ordering online.

An optician lemming has confirmed that this is not just a money grab, but its legitimacy makes me perhaps even sadder.

I have considered ordering non progressive lenses just as an emergency backup, though.

2023 sunglasses flaked off totally this year. “Oh that’s because of high heat. Maybe you left them in the car?” My friend, they’re worth two week’s pay. I don’t leave them anywhere.

Mine happened around the same time I started going swimming often (teaching my kids to swim), so it might have been the pool chemicals that did 'em in, and if not for that they might've still been OK. Can't be sure, though.

We should all boycott glasses. Bare face December!
