Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

The headline makes it sound like the "in favour" votes were for death penalty, which is not correct. This was a vote for a moratorium - a temporary suspension - of death penalty.

This now makes more sense. The headline did a shitty job

Omg thank you for the explanation I was real worried there for a second

I was wondering how we are somehow in favour when we don't even have it.

Thank you I was very confused seeing many of these countries "against"

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yes I checked my own country (Denmark) and that is green, and for Denmark it is decidedly illegal to vote for death penalty.
So the vote was probably about making death penalty illegal.

PS:
AFAIK it would be against the Eu treaty to vote for death penalty for ALL EU countries.

The headline in the image clears up the confusion

[–] Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Not if you don't know what moratorium means (which I didn't before reading the comments)

Yeah I came here to ask about this, because Brazil voting in favor of the death penalty when it doesn't have it did set off some alarms for me

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 4 points 14 hours ago

Thought the same looking up Canada.

The only people who were confused are the ones who didn't actually read the diagram.

[–] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 5 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

That's no excuse for a misleading headline.

[–] crypt0cler1c@infosec.pub -1 points 15 hours ago

It's not misleading at all...

yeah you could delete the labels altogether and I'd still tell you which color is which vote based on who voted.

for future reference, if you see the US voting with the wartorn, economically devastated, despot-ruled or otherwise suffering nations, or if you see the US voting alone or with Israel, then you can bet that they voted for the worst option.
