This doesn't make sense, I can't take as big of a bite of a horizontal cut because I can't nom pointy end first into roughly half the sandwich?

so there was some kind of casual study that showed people tend to take smaller bites of diagonally cut sandwiches. do not ask me to give a source, Dan Pashman mentioned it on his James Beard Award winning podcast The Sporkful.

That's funny. Never listened to The Sporkful, but I'd have said that this is what Judge John Hodgman is best known for, as well.
