With the number of politicians/mayors who get killed each year in Mexico, how in the hell is someone allowed to get that close to her? Holy shit.

[–] scarabic@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

If I were the president of Mexico I wouldn’t be mingling in crowds like this at all, but yeah her security was wayyy too slow on the draw.

Mexican here, this was an act. She was in a great deal of political pressure because a prominent politician/activist not associated with the regime of the ruling party, Morena, was killed and she tried to minimize it.

AMLO, the former president, founder of Morena, used to do this ridiculous acts too. Somehow a rando could walk to him taking a (fan) letter out from from his jacket, and hug him, in national TV, while his massive security team did absolutely nothing. Claudia Sheimbaum also has a massive security apparatus, this doesn’t happen without them allowing it.

The guy apparently has appeared in older videos as part of her security team, and in some angles you can see he has a holster. We Mexicans joke that all the randos doing these ridiculous but very convenient acts have an army haircut. So far it has held true, your kids do better acting at the spring festival.

Just as people demand Trump to stop distractions about the Epstein files, people here demand Sheinbaum to stop distractions and solve the public execution of Carlos Manzo by the cartels.

I dunno, this sounds made up.

As made up as the shot that hurt Trump’s ear, which was miraculously healed a few weeks later. Cheap political theatre for simpletons.

Sounds about right.

Does any Mexican press point this out? The Guardian certainly doesn't.

You know how I know you’re a fellow Latino? Cause you think everything is an act and a conspiracy, you sound like my dad

[–] TeamAssimilation@infosec.pub 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I’m Mexican, not Latino; and dismissing everything as paranoia is as dumb as thinking every is a conspiracy.

[–] demonsword@lemmy.world -1 points 11 hours ago

I’m Mexican, not Latino

murricans group everyone that lives south of them in this same bucket

[–] RedFrank24@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

If the cartels wanted her dead, no amount of security would save her. She's only in that position because the cartels allow her to be in that position.

[–] TBi@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder how much of that is true for any president. Like did Obama get a “talk” when he became president?

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

C. G. P. Grey's "Rules for Rulers" is illuminating on that front, but I don't think you mean soft power. I think you mean gangsters. And I think that most US presidents avoid such a thing by virtue of being the C in C of the biggest military on the planet. Though maybe they get a little bit of it from the Pentagon, I dunno.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Obligatory: ‘Rules for Rulers’ is a very condensed summary of Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith's ‘The Dictator's Handbook’.
