I mean the problem with this position is that the GOP doesn't really need any excuse to escalate things. We've seen for decades now that if they can't find real reasons to do some hateful thing they will fabricate reasons, lie outright, or simply do the thing anyway. There's also the large historical parallel to nazi germany and Hitler. Europe tried to appease them by capitulating over and over and it got them nothing. The parallels are obvious to our current position and we can either resist as much as possible now and maybe stop things from getting that bad or we can roll over giving them what they want and things will just keep getting worse. They won't stop because you roll over. They won't ever have hurt people enough to satisfy them.
