because democrats did so much like upgrading the federal minimum wage to living wages, reforming police, protecting the environment especially from big oil, protecting womens rights, more funding for education, and don't forget universal healthcare
both parties really suck and just because one is worse does not mean the other deserves a vote and blaming your fellow citizens only helps those at the top
Every single example you listed was spearheaded by Democrats or Progressives but then blocked by Republicans. We need to be unified against Republicans rather than at each other's throats with the constant purity tests and both sides-ing.
Speaking of "purity tests", what are your thoughts on Graham Planter?
I'm not sure, "I don't know if I believe that he didn't know the tattoo on his chest for over a decade was the third most well known Nazi symbol" is a "purity test" in the same sense.
But shouldn't we stand with Democrats no matter what without being at their throats? I guess "purity tests" are fine when libs do it tho.
I'm not sure if you're suggesting that this is my position, or?
I don't know enough about him and his situation re: the totenkopf tattoo to make an informed decision or opinion, so I'm just waiting to see what happens.
Speaking of purity tests, has Schumer endorsed Mamdani yet? Nah, I didn't think so.
The phrase "purity test" itself is divisive rhetoric from establishment Democrats meant to smear progressives. There is no need for purity tests on the left. Find a Democrat who doesn't support free college? They won't support M4A, or cutting off Israel, or ending oil subsidies, or nationalizing infrastructure, or defunding the police, or protecting trans rights without exception. We don't need to shit on Democrats for falling a little bit short on an issue or two. It's a target rich environment for absolute corporate tools. We can save purity tests for later.
Schumer's refusal to support Mamdani is based on Mamdani "failing" a purity test from Schumer.
Yeah, that was kind of my point, but kind of not too. Everything I said about the differences between progressives and the establishment holds true in both directions. There is no "purity test". We are entirely different animals, and Schumer recognizes it. The one thing we have in common is an enemy. We can work with that, but let's do it honestly and cut the "purity test" bullshit.
And, just for background, the term "purity test" was specifically developed and focus tested out of establishment consultancies for the express purpose of undermining progressives. The fact that it gets rolled out every time discussion of "unity" comes up is engineered irony.

You mean spearheaded by progressives and blocked by establishment democrats? The parent comment's soapboxing is weird, but Democrats would've done all the things they listed if they actually wanted to. And before you bring up the filibuster, they could've simply abolished the filibuster, but they don't because then they'd lose their excuse for why they don't do shit.
You do realize how this makes no freaking sense, right?
I'ts not supposed to make sense, it's supposed to convince people not to vote, because people exercising their rights are inconvenient to the republican leadership and their backers.
True!
People can still vote, just for neither of the major parties which to imbeciles is no different than not voting since ya'll want to keep us trapped in this shit instead of getting out there and doing the hard work of building actual progressive parties up.
77 million votes for one major party. 75 for the other. And 3 million for all others. Tell me, what is this going to accomplish? Do you honestly believe you are going to make ANY change by voting 3rd party?
I get the mentality that you want change, and voting for one of the same two parties feels like it won’t change anything, but neither will throwing your vote away!
Do democrats often disappoint? Yes! But they are also hamstrung by a system that benefits republicans. You want universal healthcare? It will NEVER happen so long as republicans control so much of the legislation.
IMO, the best chance for progressives is to keep voting for Democrats and use your primary vote to pick the progressive candidate. Vote 3rd party and you are just making it easier for the Republicans to do the exact opposite of what you want.
my grandfather said the goal of the democrats is to build up a progressive party and that it takes time and lots of votes
he started voting at 18 and was also brainwashed by the democrats into thinking that one vote one day might be the vote that makes the democrats magically transform into a real progressive party too
just like with fairy tales will never come true and the proof is all around us in our $7.25 minimum wage, the low value we put on our education, out of control police, the environment that is under constant threat, our workplaces that values the body as a warm piece of meat to be used as production tool and not as a human being that has rights even at work, and you can even see out in the open by just observing the democrats who are always bedding with the party that supposedly keeps them from doing anything just like the gala harris had with them that included celebrities with democrats like walz who happily worked closely with trump during trumps first four years even being the one who asked trump to work with him
not to mention voting on a machine that is privately owned by some company without a wikipedia page so votes do not matter anyway and even if they did what influences the votes are the ads, education, etcetera which again all owned by the same ones at the tops that own those voting machines
so yeah you voting for democrats means so much
Because voting green helped us so much, right?
You're either a bot, a trump supporter, or an incel - I can't tell which.
I'm doing to go with an inclusive or.
Definitely has a botlike throwaway account name.
Biden: Green energy, EV investment, union empowerment(inb4), student debt forgiveness, marijuana pardons, infrastructure, drug price controls, Chips act, PACT act, pardoning people kicked out for being gay, supporting Ukraine, etc etc etc. Also non-competes banned (by FTC along "party lines").
Ppl on Lemmy: Why are they ignoring the left!
Unreal.
