Sadly this place will lap up anything that agrees with their world view just like the right would, no seeking of truth.

You can’t have a discussion here that deviates from the popular view as you’ll be downvoted to shit for it. It has become an echo chamber where we all just stroke each others ego about how good we are and most people won’t engage with the other side as they believe they’re too far gone.

This has the added benefit of me spending less time on here and just being in the real world where people are open to change and new ideas.

I've found Lemmy to be among the least echo chambery spaces I've found online.

Sure there are a lot of prevailing opinions that people tend to share but there's also a lot of healthy discussion.

LOL. It's just people kicked off Reddit, be honest.

I left on my own when Reddit Is Fun stopped working, thank you very much.

Sounds like a good crowd.

Given the absolute fucking state of that insipid shithole and how much I love lemmy, and how alike it is to early Reddit, I could not for the life of me think of better company.

Hey now, my Reddit account may be abandoned but it's in good standing

Her lemme prove your point. Hamas is bad, so is Isreal and their people are suffering for it.

I can't speak for everyone, but I've made some pretty libertarian arguments here that have gone over well. You have to tailor your message to your audience. Lemmy is quick to judge and dogpile, but its heart is in the right place. I'd rather get harsh criticism than be gaslit and censored.

Meh. I have a pretty detached perspective on socials. I like it here and I'm fine with it being a safe space or even an echo chamber and I really don't care too much about the upvote downvote stuff aside from it potentially affecting reach. We tend to pile on whichever direction those are trending because we're dumb humans. What I like is that I can dive into the fecal hell of other media and wash off my eyes a little here. Usually. Something that's always been aggravating about the fascists is that they need zero proof before they run with an idea to the point of actual insanity based on an uttered lie from one of their bootbearers. I'd like to hold the rest of us to a much higher standard but, you're right, it really is like we'll take any headline or statement we don't have an issue with as true without a second thought.
