As long as there’s a mosquito net I’d still be thrilled. Going to sleep hearing the crickets and the water sounds like bliss.
I have actually done that, just not on a boat and I had a sleeping bag and pad instead of a bed. Even a crappy real bed sounds nice.
I too have been to Borneo and saw the orang-utans. Mosquito nets are not guaranteed, but yeah, with one it looks like a pretty sweet spot. Certainly better than a lot of the places I stayed at in South-East Asia .
Oh, sorry for being unclear, I meant the sleeping outside part! Never been to Borneo myself, it sounds fantastic though.
Cool place. I didn't think you had been, I was more referring to the OP. I didn't do a river cruise, though. I worked in Brunei for about 5 months, and went to Sabah to see the apes and climb Mt. Kinabalu before leaving. This was in 1994 and sadly I no longer have the photos.
I always say the unofficial motto of SEA is 'What's that smell?"
