You might be confusing movies with Texas...
We genuinely have churches that'll have congregants bring in their guns en masse to have them blessed so that they'll shoot the right thing. Seriously.
Texas: the state so bad that even the dude who designed the flag rated it one star.
They just copied California's original flag.

In Dogma, the catholic Cardinal played by George Carlin blessed his golf clubs. Silent Bob used it to kill the demon.
And I believe all of Constantine's weapons were blessed. So he could kill demons.
