The reason is right wing billionaires and millionaires have captured most governments and media institutions and are throwing gasoline on the fire to allow them to purchase the all ashes of the societies they burn down.
If money can buy you power in the apocalypse, then they would rather live as rich fucks in a fallen might-makes-right cinderpile, rather than pump the breaks slightly on their insane lifestyle so that we could all have a future worth living in.
