How. Tell us how to fight back against one of the most highly militarized police forces in the world and the most powerful army in the world? How are normal middle class Americans supposed to fight back against that? I mean I love the fantasy of fighting back, but tell me exactly how to do it. You tell me that and I'll start doing it.
I'd be willing to bet a decade from now we'll know that Trump probably cheated in the election and Republicans stole it. If there wasn't vote manipulation I'd be extremely surprised, knowing what we know about this administration and the people running it. How are we supposed to fight back against a system this fucking rigged?
It's really fucking easy to sit back in your armchair and call us dumb or lazy for not doing anything about this. I'm sure a lot of us would love to do something about it, so why don't you tell us how.
Especially when most people have some variation of, "I am going to work myself to death now for a comfortable later" burned into their head from generation after generation of parents.
The, "No Kings" protests basically accomplished nothing beyond a, "neat statistic", in my opinion.
Most people are tuned out, my worksite has 1000+ people at it, no one is talking about this stuff, ever. I am a bit, most people do not care, do not want to risk doing something or have shit going on in their personal lives that take priority.
Anyone critical should do themselves a favor and watch the 1961 film, "Judgment at Nuremberg". The USA judges' servants, when asked if they knew about concentration camps initially denied it. Then, seconds later (paraphrasing), "Even if we did, we are but little people, what could we do?".
P.S. Down voting doesn't change stated reality, sorry.
Thank you! I go to the protests, donate to the causes. We really are fucking helpless and it sucks.
It's a shitty feeling to know that you're doing everything you can and still have to watch our country speed run to authoritarian.
Well, there's the extreme end of things that moderators don't like posts about People love Luigi, though. But I understand not wanting to throw one's life away, even if success pushed the entire world onto a better trajectory.
There's also that low grade sabotage stuff that gets talked about. I think people were posting the ww2 sabotage manual a couple months ago. Stuff like have excessive meetings, make plausible mistakes to gum things up, that kind of stuff. This works better if you're closer to a source of the problems (eg: ICE, mega corps, republican think tanks, etc)
Then there's safer stuff like protests. There's the really safe ones where you just go and march. Those have use, but are kind of limited and won't fix things on their own. You can also do disruptive protests, but you have to be quick and smart, or you have a high risk of going to jail (or worse).
Radicalizing your friends also can be planting seeds. Maybe those will grow.
You could run for office, but that's slow and expensive.
There's probably other stuff, too, but I'm running out of steam here.
everyone wants someone else to be Gavrilo Princip
I read the "ww2 sabotage manual" - i forget exactly what it was called. I do remember it feeling incredibly outdated and not geared toward our current situation though. It seemed to mostly be meant for factory workers who could potentially sabotage production.
Afghani peasants did it. The Iraqis did it. The Vietnamese did it.
You never fight an enemy on their terms. The military control the guns. American civilians control EVERYTHING ELSE. Authorities can only be in one location. Citizens are everyshere.
Organize.
Block roads. Obstruct government and commerce. Hit infrastructure. Dump manure in the streets like the French. Stop garbage pickup. Bring society to its knees.
If those nations I mentioned can do it then surely the "home of the brave" can too.
That worked in Hong Kong right? Or tienamen square?
This isn’t the mountains of Afghanistan or the jungles of Vietnam. There’s massive infrastructure and different levels of law enforcement and state apparatus.
Well enjoy your death camps then since there's clearly nothing to be done.
I always thought Americans would at least TRY to save their democracy. But making excuses is easier.
~~France Surrenders~~ Americans Give Up.
They are cheeseburger eating surrender monkeys.....
No change to Trump will come from that. Blocking roads or dumping manure? That may work in France because French police still are humans. But in America you may get shot doing that and called a terrorist afterwards.
Defeatism has never changed a thing.
neither has ignoring the reality of a situation. French police are not like American police, nor are the politicians that control them. Republican politicians are literally above the law. They can do whatever they want because they control the courts, congress, and the presidency. They are soulless scumbags that literally do not have a sense of guilt or shame. And they are already putting the military into our cities. So its not just the police that we'd be fighting.
The first step to any of these things is explaining to me how we break Americans out of their complacent stupor. And honestly, the only way I can think to do that, is to wait for things to get much much much worse. Not until people are literally fighting for their survival will they be willing to do much of these things. If they had outside support, like the Vietnamese or Afghanis maybe they would be more willing. Its the reason i keep saying some support from our supposed NATO allies would be fucking incredible.
Afghani peasants, the Vietnamese, and Iraqis all had the support of governments.
Stop paying your taxes and buying shit? Violence? There I gave you a couple solutions go do 'em.
Cool, take care of my father with Alzheimer's and I will get right to that.
Good luck with his medical bills, I promise you, they are a struggle.
Exactly. You'll always have an excuse to do nothing. Immediately going for the emotional excuse too! You expect change with no sacrifice just like every other person in this country. We watch day by day as Hitler Jr and his pals take away freedoms, rights, safety etc but your dad is what's keeping you from fighting back... Yeah OK.
Uh, he needs 24/7 care, most of which I provide at present (I have to, ya know, work fulltime for food, utility bills and health insurance for medications).
Despite your anger, I hope you do not end up in a situation like this. Enjoy, "freedom" while you can, it disappears in a variety of circumstances.
Oh fuck you acting like your situation is unique. No one is free in the US. You people prove day in and day out that you have no critical thinking skills and no fucking backbone. Good luck with you dad. Maybe when you have nothing left to lose you'll wake up.
Come up with a real solution before you keep talking. Otherwise you just sound like an asshole.
Also, enjoy your time as an adolescent.
It's easy to criticize. What are you doing to stop it? You should do more of that instead of wasting time being an asshole to people on the internet.
Upvoting all I can here. Like, they're going to come for all your benefits, money, property eventually. Sticking your head in the sand is only gonna make it easier to kick your ass.
The downvotes are from people who know I'm right, but it makes them feel bad to think about.
The downvotes are from you being a jackass attacking the wrong people because of your own impotent frustration
You have said literally nothing useful. That's why you're being downvoted.
No, all your suggestions will just accomplish nothing except get people who follow them into huge problem with zero gains.
Not paying taxes, being violent, how is that a plan? Thats why the downvotes I think. You are just being angry and wanting change, but you also dont have a plan that will do anything. Just like everyone.
The issue is mainly coordination. One person acting is going to accomplish nothing while guaranteeing that this one person loses everything. Everyone needs to act at the same time. We need a leader to start a movement that everyone can get behind.
One of the reasons why I said an outside country or countries should help. Would go a huge way in helping to coordinate an effort and supply logistical resources.
Unfortunately it seems that other NATO countries don't know what's good for them.
Cool, so have our social security, property, etc taken away by the IRS. And starve ourselves.
And violence? Did you not read what I wrote earlier?
These are beautiful ideas dude. Truly beautiful.
I actually like the first one, not paying taxes. I actually already stopped doing that. That said, I cheated my ass off on my taxes to do it. I may get audited, I might not. But you're still going to have an awful lot of Republicans paying taxes and a lot of other people who don't want their property and social security, etc taken away.
You want to hear what I think about this? If our supposed NATO allies would actually you know help us out, that would be fucking fantastic. We've known he was a Russian asset for a fucking decade, and none of our allies have done a damn fucking thing to help us.
You want us to fight back? Do what the United States did with other revolutionary forces. Start sending money, start training insurgent groups, start arming people. Help us fight back.
"Everyone else needs to put their asses on the line! Not me!"
No one's coming to save you. Maybe ask the fascists to play nicer, I guess? It's worked pretty well so far.
You realize that fascism isn't exclusive to the US right? It's actually spreading to other Western nations. If we don't start helping each other, you are going to be just as fucked as we are. It's only a matter of time. It would also serve NATO well to keep the strongest military in its alliance, in its alliance. Otherwise if world war three breaks out, well you guys are going to be pretty fucked.
Maybe the smart response here isn't just to say "no one's coming to help you out". Because that's worked out pretty well for you so far...
Not paying taxes will do nothing but get a persona arrested, and then the tax money would be taken anyway. This is the dumbest idea I've read yet.
And violence... Cool, not a bad idea, but how? Do you think the average or even above average person can get anywhere near the POTUS for an assassination attempt? If an elected official is murdered in their house, that doesn't change margins. A number of people would have to be killed at almost the same time or everyone goes into lockdown.
Say for a second someone pops Trump. Then what? JD Vance, that's what. Then another slew of Republicans to take control.
Getting violent towards the likes of ICE is also great in theory, but that did happen, and it was over almost immediately. They are better armed than the militaries of some countries. Also, the US is a massive place. It would take me a day of driving to get to DC where currently their are weekend warriors playing army.
All that to say, it's not as simple as pinch your pennies and get violent. If it were, we wouldn't be in this situation.
