Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Endemic vagrancy, disorderly behavior, sudden confrontations, and violent attacks have made our cities unsafe. The number of individuals living on the streets in the United States on a single night during the last year of the previous administration — 274,224 — was the highest ever recorded. The overwhelming majority of these individuals are addicted to drugs, have a mental health condition, or both. Nearly two-thirds of homeless individuals report having regularly used hard drugs like methamphetamines, cocaine, or opioids in their lifetimes. An equally large share of homeless individuals reported suffering from mental health conditions. The Federal Government and the States have spent tens of billions of dollars on failed programs that address homelessness but not its root causes, leaving other citizens vulnerable to public safety threats.

Sorry guys, that's mostly true, and the last line is spot on. The one thing that demonstrably works, putting them in housing, has only been tried in limited areas and conservatives loathe "giving".

Most of us here know that it's been shown to be cheaper to house them than pay for what they cost society. One example; When my ex-wife worked the ER she dreaded hard freezes because the homeless would get themselves creamed by cars to score a warm hospital bed.

So they have to know prisoners will cost more than doing nothing. What I don't get is this: Keeping a prisoner costs far more than paying a free man. So what's the game here?

Funneling public tax money to Trump's buddies who own private prisons.

You're assuming they'll have a roof and proper meals. Look at the current conditions in Alligator Auschwitz and then make it worse.

Its easier to suck away the public money with a prison/asylum system as they are owned by individual companies. House tends to be construted by companies and oft times some government agencies own them or god forbid transfer ownership to the residents. Almost no skim in that system so bad.

So what's the game here?

In certain cases in history, healthy prisoners were made profitable through enforced labor, while unhealthy prisoners were executed.
