There's 8 billion people in this world and I can only impact a few of them. Whopping them isn't a tool I prefer or tend to use, but I also recognize that it's the only tool some on the side of behaving decently have or some people respond to.

Why should some people only respond to whopping?

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Google that, and let me know what it says. Also, I didn't say they should, I said they do. You could as easily ask why some people engage in criminal activity or abusive behavior, and probably get the same answers.

It's not a scientific fact. That's why I ask why you believe it. Why do some people only respond to whopping?

The field of psychology has been around for about 100 years. I don't think they have all the details worked out enough to call it a science. But let's set that aside. Do you think Putin will respond to anything but whopping? Why or why not?

People always want something. Make those things available and they will offer something in return.

And what if what they want is to enact violence on others?

[–] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They have learned that it is fulfilling but most likely it is not what they really want.

You're working on two flawed premises. First, that everyone is a rational actor. Second, that everyone wants to do good, or even agrees what that is.

People don't act entirely random. They do what is best for them. If people would randomly hit other people, mass gatherings would be impossible.

If people did what was best for themselves, there would be no addicts in the world. While not everyone randomly hits other people, there are people in every city who do.

Also, irrational and random are not the same thing.

Think about the addicts. They do what is best for them. Understand that and you understand why everybody can be influenced by more than just whopping.
