That's the funny part. If they released the papers, why would it end any different than the Panama papers? No one is going to prosecute them (well, maybe some people overseas might face consequences) so they could've just laundered them by flooding the zone in misinfo

But now? Part of Trump's core base are true believers and really care about this. They're conspiracy theorists, and the admin just wiggled an obvious juicy conspiracy in their faces before covering it up cartoonishly

The outcry exists but it will fade. And soon too. These people WANT to follow their cult leader. It will just take some time as this outrage is mostly emotional and not really people caring about childrens welfare (they might believe it though).

To be honest it feels like they misshandled this on purpose as to deflect from the Brutal Bafoonery Bill that was even making the news internationally.

Nah... Not this time. I mean, time will tell, but this is going to have consequences... Look how long people have hung onto JFK and MLK, this isn't going away. The Dale Gribbles of the world are losing their minds over this

Democrats hate their voters, Republicans fear their voters. Because progressives don't pop off and shoot people

There's two factions in the white house right now giving ultimatums... Patel hasn't been showing up for work, apparently either Bondi goes or he does, along with others in the cabinet. Taco Belle's voice was shaking the entire press conference, Trump loses his charisma and babbles every time it comes up...

They're terrified. They're caught between powerful people and their base, and all they can do to get out of this is to convince conspiracy theorists that there's no conspiracy

I mean i surely do not know enough about american politics to argue against your points. It just seems there are no consequences for even the most despicable people you have, as long as they are powerful enough. Now while Epstein might seem like a good argument i would say he is only dead because he was a danger for more powerful people.

Interesting times to be alive.

Yeah, there probably won't be consequences for the people on the list even if it were to be released

It's probably includes like half of our Congress, the Saudis, most billionaires (globally), a bunch of our judges, Prince Andrew, King William, and countless other influential politicians/figures across the world.

This isnt an island, it involves the full network of the 80+ resorts, mansions, and compounds where billionaires spend most of their lives

They killed (or coerced to suicide) Epstein because he got caught sex trafficking children and had the blackmail material holding the conspiracy together. It was making powerful people very nervous. They'd be nervous if he just sat in jail, they'd be nervous if he walked free

The only way elites like that face consequences is when they're at cross purposes with more powerful people

My point being, powerful people are nervous. On the other side conspiracy theories have busted into places to "save the children" in cases like pizzagate, and they've been foaming at the mouth over this for years

So the Trump admin are the ones in danger. They have to thread the needle between these two groups, and I think they were threatened when they failed to make it go away in the last few months

Fun (depressing) fact, the only rich asshole to go to jail over the Panama Papers is the guy who contracted to have that journalist car bombed.

If he had done nothing, his corruption and bribery might have blown over, but he decided to murder his problems away. And while police could give two shits about financial crime, they do care about murder.

Thing is, a lot of people think tax fraud is perfectly fine. Not quite so many people think raping kids is okay.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 0 points 9 hours ago

Okay, well Trump almost certainly raped kids. Bill Clinton too. We have a lot of evidence suggesting that. Many members of Congress in fact - MTG said the quiet part out loud and openly threatened them about it (a few months back when that one guy paid underage prostitutes on Venmo)

But it doesn't seem to matter, does it? Why isn't there a mob outside MTG's house demanding she explains why she's protecting child rapists?

We all know already. Why would another scrap of evidence matter? Why aren't we demanding investigations of all of them?

People aren't ok with the tax evasion either, it just doesn't matter if no one prosecutes them
