A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If you guys think we're getting a truth and reconciliation hearing after this administration, then you have too much faith in the dead institutions which led to Trump's election. The United States is over, after this. 100 years from now it will be obvious in hindsight
Oh, it's never going back the way it was.
This is clearly fascism, those are clearly concentration camps, and that's the Gestapo running around.
You don't just walk that back.
I mean, Germany is doing alright these days from what I understand.
Because in exchange for ruining Europe they were given massive investments from the US. But now that the boom is over the Nazis are back to being trendy. Germans are the most shameless people I've seen when it comes to racism, it's quite astonishing
Define "alright". Fascism is on the rise here, too.
It was bombed into near oblivion by 2 world powers, who's gonna do that to America?
If you want to go down the path of defeatism without putting up a fight, then yeah. Go fulfil your prophecy.
Spades are broken. Die is cast. Etc.
This country might limp along for a few decades. But the USA as we knew it is dead. Do you really think Chump is the only fascist with aspirations that big? Do you think the Heritage Foundation goes away when the One Big Beautiful Obituary finally drops? Do you think they won't try again? Do you think MAGA won't enthusiastically leap at the next swaggering fascist?
Our institutions are not built to withstand such direct assault. The intentional dismantling we've been seeing. The regulatory, legislative, legal, and economic capture that has occurred. If it isn't a strongman it'll be some businessman who isn't a failure. One with big Corp backing.
The sheer momentum of the dollar and power of US financialization will keep things going. The branding will remain. But little if anything will stop our continuing decline. Saying nothing of the damage done internationally. Geopolitically. The US can never be trusted on anything ever again longer than a 4 year timetable because at any time we could elect another used car salesman or failed gameshow host who wants to be a dictator.
I'm sorry, who's saying the US will go back to what it once was? If you want to lay down and die, go right ahead, but do it on your own time.
I'm tired. I would prefer immediate collapse to slow decline. It is going down. Sooner or later. Damage done. Which is not something I lament in itself. This is an evil country that has done incalculable harm to the world. The passing of the US wont be mourned by anyone who's opinion is worthy of respect.
What I don't understand is why you have to try to drag everyone else down with you, and that makes you sound like you're already "mourning the country". Like I said, if you're tired, you go ahead and lie down on your own, please.
I am just as powerless to stop any of this as you are. You go be poppy and exuberant for the both of us. Good luck to you.
Yeah, we're relatively powerless individually, but not collectively, and you seem keen on preventing that from happening at all. There are judges overturning decisions, we got apps tracking ICE, there are mass protests happening outside, we got people helping others survive. There is a large push back, and we need more of it, not less. It's mind-boggling that your immediate stance is why bother doing anything at all, and you seem to be pulling all the stops to justify it. If you won't help, at least stop being a negative Nancy for those who will. We're all doing our part, even if you're not.
lol putting up a fight? who is doing that? Muricans jumped from "too lazy to vote via mail" to "we need to get guns" to "when somebdy fixes this..." as if they think that would happen in their lifetime
Did you know that Republicans took it upon themselves to curb mail-in voting to prepare for the election and made it as hard as possible to do so in some states? And that many ballots were discarded for the most ridiculous reasons? And that there was a record turnout at the latest election, but for some reason, electronic ballots were discarded?
You can call people lazy all you want but that doesn't reflect reality.
and you are all bravely sitting down... good job
Are we? That's news to me. I get out to vote and protest every chance I get. But I don't see a shortage of people like you who want everyone to do just that.
I want you to stand up, go on a general strike, paralize your country until fascism stops... as it is, we are all suffering because of you
Nothing would make me happy than to be proven wrong.
ps: complaining online and marching on Sundays is sitting down and taking it
Sure, bud. And what do you suggest people do, then? What's your big plan for the American people? Lay down and die? Lose hope and let the fascists steamroll over them? How is that any better? I'm not hearing anything but negativity from you.
dude I just laid it out for you:
and about this
grow up bud, I'm not here to cheer you up. Youeas a collective really fucked up, now it's time to nut/ovary up and fix it
And you're suggesting that because that has worked before? For a population that's largely living paycheck to paycheck? The thing about fascism creeping in is that you still need to go to work every day and do your little tasks so you can survive.
I've looked at several sites and they all focus on one thing: building a coalition. You only get that by demonstrating it openly and getting people on your side. Because despite what you believe, the protests aren't all for the fascists, but for the other people who haven't gotten on board yet. And you need a catalyst, with defiance and force. You do things, not stand around and wait for it to be over.
Oh no, you're actively "gheering" people down and what's my whole beef with these damn comments.
I see, so you want an effortless, risk free, guaranteed to work way to recover the democracy you threw out the window through years of apathy and "fuck you, got mine" attitude?
Effortless? Lol! What part of being politically active on top of doing work do you find effortless? Have you ever done it, even? Because I'm sure you'll be the one providing food, right? Or are you speaking out your butt from the comfort of your privilege?
And also curious that you think people will all organize to do nothing by doing nothing. Yeah, being demonized as lazy is going to work wonders. Like, what part of getting people on your side does not register?
Also, idk to what kind of monolithic American you're speaking to from that high horse, but it's quite obvious you've never lived in the States if that's what you think Americans are like. Basing your shitty opinions on pure stereotypes. For shame.
Oh yeah let me just tap into my trust fund to survive the presumably year or more it would take "until fascism stops." That's the problem with you people, in reality no action taken is ever good enough so in effect you're just another fatalistic asswipe.
