Metaphorically, it's like telling people who slather hot sauce on everything yet always complain about stomach issues but never connect the dots.
Yes, the hot sauce hurts them, even the act of eating it is objectively painful and they know it, but it also provides them with a sense of satisfaction which they deeply desire (lacking it, for the impoverished right, in their lives due to their restrictive culture) that makes them willing to overlook the pain. Some time later, the indigestion, heartburn, and/or acid reflux start up then they get all "ugh, why my tummy always upset?" cause they cannot put two-and-two together from being inundated with so much misinformation and end up believing the logical assumption is because they put chemicals in the water to make the frogs gay or some bullshit.
I'm going to be so sad if my spicy pad Thai ever starts hurting me. My weekly lunches at my local Thai place are some of the happiest moments in my life at the moment.
And I know that sounds sad, but their food really is just that good.
Nothing sad about enjoying food, at all.
Oh don't do that to me.
I haven't had Pad Thai in years. I miss being able to go eat at restaurants occasionally and enjoy some good cooking. Been about a year since I've eaten something that didn't come from a Dollar General. I hate it.
I think people know that spicy foods hurt their stomach and just find the discomfort worth it. This is an oddly specific and weird straw man which makes me think you're really just holding contempt for someone you know
Have you never heard of a simile? There is a difference between it and a strawman. I'm specifically creating a comparison that shares the same logic as that of people who vote against their own interests yet don't realize they suffer directly from their actions only to blame their party's political opponents.
[Right-wing poor who vote against their own interests then blame "the Left"] are :like: [people who overeat hot sauce then blame something completely unrelated for their stomach issues]
Those people exist, it makes up a large part of the right wing voting base.
Edit: yes, at the end there I threw in a low blow with the bit of humor poking fun at the Alex Jones-type right-wing conspiracists, sue me.
I am saying that there exists nearly no one who is eating lots of spicy food and then complaining about it later, unaware why their stomach hurts. You are aware that 1) most people don't complain about that stuff except maybe to those very close them and 2) they fucking know what causes it.
Mainly, it was oddly specific and you sound mad... About spicy food? And no, that's not a simile either way, to my recollection, not that it really matters
It's a hypothetical mate, using a simile and then explaining the logic behind it. It's intentionally done to highlight how nonsensical of a position it is. You're focusing on the wrong thing and missing the point.
Using hot sauce analogy/simile/metaphor/whatever was for rhetorical purpose. I could have made any number of comparisons, that's just the one I choose.
Idk how I sound mad. That's just your interpretation. Inducing tone from text isn't the most precise thing. Only "angry" part I assume is the end but that was just poking fun at the expense of people like Alex Jones and his whole "turn the frogs gay" meme.
I mean, you're starting with the idea that there are many people too stupid to know how spicy foods affect them. If that wasn't the premise or didn't sound judgy I wouldn't have said anything
