Went with my partner to a really cute cabin for a vacation. It was a yurt, and really nice except the partition to the bathroom was just a curtain and the wall didn't go to the ceiling. It was at least behind a wall so there was a small modicum of privacy

So waaaaaaay too much cheese on both our parts lead to some very unpleasant bathroom trips and a resulting overload of senses. There was a window, fortunately, though it was fairly ineffective but we learned to excuse ourselves from the cabin when the other had to shit their brains out

I haven't had too many issues lately with hotels and obnoxious lights. And I think it's because manufacturers have changed something. But every once in a while there's some device that has a pinprick hole with a blue led behind it that acts like a damn flashlight and sends a faint blue beam across the room, or if it's aimed at you:

That's like a reverse gofundme/kickstart with an escrow. Money held by a reputable 3rd party and if either side falls through the money goes back to the original holders

I don't want to pay monthly for someone to produce a variable number of videos, or even pay to subscribe to a whole platform to be distributed and support content I would not like to support financially. But I could very realistically consider how much I'd be willing to pay for one of their videos

A creator like Technology Connections? 100% willing to put money on the table to show there's an audience for the video. I'd be willing to pay less for a video from a streamer who plays games and puts out a video a day. They both bring entertainment value but also the production value and informational content is vastly different

I was interested so I looked into it:

alt text"Per Creation was our first-ever billing model. Based on a “choose what you pay model,” you can create differently priced tiers, however, paid content is shared with all members. Members subscribed to a creator who bills per creation can set a monthly maximum of posts to support in a given month – this ensures that members aren’t charged more than they can agree to. A member’s monthly max does not impact their membership access."

Seems like that's what patreon was originally intended for, but they've deprecated that feature

A lot of creators have turned to merch which I also don't really want to buy, unless it's practical like a tool because I don't like wearing branded or logod things and have no need for knickknacks (stickers are an exception but they go on water bottles). Besides, the markup is ridiculous for very basic commodities

When I was in my early teens when my family and I heard an extremely close lightning strike. I think we were sitting outside and saw the lightning but didn't see where it hit

I looked over and realized it had struck a tree a few houses up

"The tree is on fire!" Mom, Dad, and myself ran downstairs; mom drove us up the road with shovels in the back and Dad and I hopped out

A couple neighbors showed up just about the same time as us. One had a blanket and was trying to beat it out which was working on the grass but it was fanning the flames that were already starting up the trunk. I had to tell them to stop and encouraged people to throw dirt on the trunk which thankfully worked

spoilerPlease don't ask why no one had a fire extinguisher, I was young and I didn't think about it. Or maybe someone brought one but didn't deploy it. I think the immediacy of the situation led people to grab the tools they knew where they were and maybe people didn't think about using an extinguisher on nature?

I was reading up on my replies and I realized this was not at all the song I thought it was, but I love it and the video

It immediately gave me the urge to watch this:
Nails, Hair, Lips, Heels

I absolutely love the video! I find this song playing in my head at random times. Idk if you care for it but I love to share it when I can so hopefully someone gets to discover something new

OMG...

they did a Christmas themed one, I just discovered this:

I'm not against bros blowing bros,

But if that were to happen I'm pretty sure it would not be consensual on Mamdani's part

Cuomo? 100% wouldn't have given a 2nd thought and assumed it's true

I'm pretty sure I know the song (can't listen atm) but never seen the video

Was not expecting this:

That was still a very heartfelt reply and I appreciated it. I don't think you came off any way at all other than passionate

Please don't talk down to yourself. Learning new things is inspiring!

Your comment made me realize ~~I had an id10t whoosh moment here. I didn’t realize~~ wombats actually pooped cubes. ~~What a dummy.~~ Thanks!

♥️♥️ Your comment just struck a chord with me so I wanted to ask you to not be so hard on yourself

Definitely, but they (my family member) did well for themselves and their family. They moved between big name studios but have found a comfortable career not tied to any big name studio

I haven't kept in close contact with them but it's pretty fun hearing about, or even playing, games they've worked on (every once in a while I check up on what they've done)

They eventually got into the sound side of things and occasionally would do recordings when family got together. One time in particular I remember, we went on a walk and they brought recording equipment. Recorded the ambient sounds while we were on the trail. Sometimes we'd be talking and other times we were walking in silence. Recording us approaching and departing; the sounds of our footsteps on different terrain: gravel, dirt, grass, pavement. Got some closeups of a small creek that ran next to the trail. Would record the sounds of a field of wild grass, or a stand of trees. I wonder if anything they recorded ended up in some game.. That would be pretty dope

Tl;Dr What I can say is, they genuinely loved their job no matter which shitty big name they worked under. And they got to do some genuinely fun things in the pursuit of bettering their work

Sorry for the wall of text, idk I just haven't really had somewhere to share that. I've never heard someone mention infinity ward , like literally ever. Any time I've said the name I've been met with blanks stares until I say "Call of Duty"

I experimented with a bunch of foods and food-safe strong smelling/tasting things. Even spicy was knocked out which surprised me. I would have thought that would have remained unaffected

That was one of the few times in life I've really been concerned about my quality of life if the effects were permanent

Like, I've thought about "what if I lost my sight/hearing/limbs" but taste and smell never really occurred to me. But it was truly life altering and I really considered what I'd do if I didn't get those senses back

[–] tpyo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh yeah that was absolutely affected as well. I couldn't taste anything for a few days. I don't remember specifically how long I couldn't taste or smell, this was 4.5 years ago. That was the first time, early 2021. Subsequent bouts have not done that to me (unfortunately I work in an environment where people come in sick and pass it along. I've gotten covid many times and it makes me upset every time)

But yeah, eating became an even more unpleasant task. I pretty much do it because I have to but I try to make it enjoyable; but when you only have texture to work with then that becomes very difficult

I have a family member who worked for IW on CoD but left shortly after the merger when they saw the writing on the wall. Granted they left for a company just as bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2 adults and 1 younger teen

We're going on a two week road trip that'll be fairly leisurely. Stopping by some parks and sights as we go and a few nights at our ultimate destination

I had my car recently serviced. It all checks out

I have a steam deck on the way! Any recommendations here for travel accessories? Or just in general?

We've all got devices and chargers and their respective blocks. I'm looking at a power inverter for the hungrier devices
I was debating bringing the oculus to give whomever a bit of isolation if they need; is there anything specific I'd need to do to use it where there's no internet? I haven't used it enough to be very familiar with most of its abilities

We adults have ps5s. Most likely won't bring one. I've seen portable monitors that people use with a local device; does anyone have experience using one for remote play for the ps5?

And making sure we've got entertainment downloaded to our devices; obviously books and offline/non electronic entertainment will be brought, as well

I'm really looking forward to this and want to make it the best experience for all involved! I look forward to hearing your tips

Edit to add: the point of the road trip is to bury my grandfather. And I'm petrified of flying in the current state of the US

Since we HAVE to make this trip we're trying to make the most of it by stopping by some state/national parks and other landmarks/pois during which we'll be present. But there's going to be LONG stretches of literally nothing exciting. Like corn fields. Many hours of corn fields. Most days are 6 - 10 hours in the car
