FINALLY! I was wondering how long it'd take for people to act upon the fact that Permission prompts have become THE biggest digital grift. The answer: way too fucking long!

Yeah, I expressed myself oddly, sorry=)) More points toward not posting before drinking my first cup=))

I do agree with you in the sense that we need to start detaching ourselves from the US "materially," both hardware and software, but we need to offer those as alternatives to what there is, open to anyone and everyone, not just us.

My brain then jumbled it up with, precisely, the Fediverse, because that's something which doesn't belong to the US, cannot belong to anyone per se, so it's a really good thing upon which we could build, with the specific intention of nurturing its unown-ability (sorry...).

With America as it is, the world needs a bastion of freedom, and Europe is in the perfect position to start building that.

As for your last point, yeah, I get that. Honestly, I still try to treat it as a public park, or something, but with more interaction. Sure, it's not like Facebook in terms of interaction depth, but I think what's there is enough to keep conversations going. We need open conversations, the Greeks were right with their public forums, I think, and we should encourage as many people as possible to join! Be the change you wanna see and all that!

Plus nowadays it isn't even all that smart to keep social interactions digital, scrapers still gonna scrape. The added layer of anonymity helps, and I find it allows people to speak their mind more often. There'll always be bad apples, build around them.

Yep, we need our own shit, that's the thing. A nice message board exclusively for Europe, make it public, have mods only to break up stupid fights and to look into actually suspicious accounts, and that's it.

Edit: and we're already on it.

Edit 2: honestly, in terms of social networking, I think most of us aren't liaising as much as we could. What I mean by this is acting as an intermediary between the various social networks we each use, and the people around us. Found something stupid on Facebook which would beg discourse? Post it on the Lemmy board and start that discourse!

Know a buncha' Instagram people who don't get enough news? Spam their WhatsApps with articles! Basically, keep on doing what you're doing, but bump up those numbers!

As a Leftist Romanian, this is not how to do things (at least not while things are still relatively reasonable)...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Left compromises until it switches to the Right, I know, but we do still need a few standards and boundaries, ffs...

If this was about another misinformation campaign, post that shit publicly! Point your finger at it and keep that finger pointed, make a public mockery of these vile behaviours! But if it's just The Other People™ sharing ideas and discussing, then... what the fuck is your business with it? Isn't that the exact same thing we're doing? There still needs to be discourse, there needs to be communication! We can't just silence voices as it pleases us, that's what the fucking Nazis WANT! We do still have to fight nice and clean for a while, set the example.

Within limits, of course! If the Right starts throwing pocket sand, then kicks to the groin are back on the menu, y'know what I mean? But until then, stop fucking about! You're just feeding into their nonsense machine!

By the skin of our teeth! We bought ourselves four more years, siblings, let's make good use of them!

Edit: we even get a bonus, we get to see Simion and Georgescu having public meltdowns now!

I have been asked and have asked myself many such questions during University...

Looks like someone's taking some lessons from Zuck's methodology. "Whoops! That highly questionable and suspiciously intentional shit we did was totes an accident! Spilt milk now, I guess! Wuh-huh-heey honk-honk!"

He does embody some of the worst aspects of humanity, so yeah! He's, at the very least, an excellent example of how not to do stuff...

Unfortunate truth, but entirely inexcusable. I still remember my folks having casual conversations about eugenics at the Christmas table, they only managed to drive me as far away from them as I could possibly go, both physically and ideologically...

White genocide... in Africa... Am I having the dumbest nightmare ever, is this real life? What the fuck is happening?

Well, they'd better fucking stop it, because I'll have to deal with their shit...

It's... an uphill battle, to say the least... I'm trying to discuss these things with people within my social group who are undecided or are Right-leaning, and everything is dismissed as "fear-mongering" - even (maybe especially) when presenting actual facts.

Trouble is, our educational system, while dense and robust in terms of information, does not encourage or aid the development of critical thinking. Most people don't even understand the Hierarchy of Blame and Responsibility (as I call it), nor do they have an adequate understanding of how the economy works, which is why everyone still cheers when someone says "we'll increase the amount of money in your pockets" while it's a practical impossibility, or why a lot of people believed that "€35k houses" nonsense Simion spouted.

These are dangerous times, everyone's feeling it and that feeling is correct. However, most people don't do the work needed to understand WHY the times are dangerous and wherein the danger actually lays, and so start hanging onto anyone or anything which promises them quick solutions.

Part of me can't blame them, as our history has never been truly comfortable, not even after the establishment of contemporary Democracy in our country. We, the average citizens, have been played and taken for fools time and time again, it's hard to trust anyone who seems to want to maintain the Status Quo. On the other hand, I can't believe how desperately stupid the situation has become...
