There are not cheaper ways, though. It's a monumental task and if it is done incompletely, it was pointless to even undertake.

Most feral animals can't just be "re-homed". Cats don't need humans to be happy and to thrive. They don't need a house. They don't need a ship. The most we should do for them is give them a cat island (where they would likely turn cannibal and start consuming each other within a generation).

This happened for me less than half an hour into The Phantom Menace.

How is this any sadder than just closing your eyes and thinking really hard while you crank one out

That's treating the justice system as a cudgel to hurt people you want hurt. It's not meant to hurt anyone. I think what you want is maybe a mob or a hired thug?

The evidence of the mechanism of anesthetics on microtubules preventing consciousness makes me suspect that actual honest to god consciousness is phenomenon that arises from fundamentally intra-cellular, not inter-cellular mechanisms; that no more than a single cell is required to have a form of experience. Which is a potential I hate, but it's the most consistent model I have.

I suspect that all animal cells think and have experiences. But neural cells are specialized.

The American government has been terrorizing millions of innocent people for decades. This is the natural progression.

There is a personal element to this, somehow. The developer's relationship with Linux took a weird turn at one point and there's been a will-they-won't-they tension ever since.
