The holodeck is what you get when the writers of a science fiction series set hundreds of years in the future in a galaxy densely populated with intelligent, space-faring species who have technology to travel hundreds of times the speed of light decide that that concept is too limiting.
Also a great way to reuse some of those existing costumes and sets.
I love KGLW but I don't like the microtonal stuff.

Some don't realize the dangers. Some don't care. Some actively exploit their children for views and money.

We already use a barter system. We exchange our goods and services for other goods and services. Money is just a medium for when a direct exchange isn't practical or possible.
Early Nog was kinda punchable. Captain Nog from "The Visitor" is awesome.
But they're the ones who need the good seeds the most.
