I have a good friend who is Venezuelan. She's a wonderful person, extremely intelligent, and everybody who knows her, loves her.
She just became an American citizen in December, and believes that will protect her. I dont want to scare her, but I'm a standard-issue white guy, and I'm still worried about my safety, and my family's. When things start getting really ugly, i doubt they will respect her citizenship.
