Same here. Your pain and suffering is like $40.

Crazy when you see US damages being in the millions.

I think there are a few issues:

  1. How do you prove kid A gave kid B measels?

  2. Why isn't kid B vaccinated? Because they don't need to be, group immunity. Well that is no longer true with anti vax so...

  3. Kid B then gives kid C measels, so kid B's parents are now liable.

  4. Your in small claims court. You have to prove damages. So you're going for loss of earning for an adult looking after the kid + pain and suffering. Is that payout going to be worth filing papers, legal advice etc.

You'd be better passing a law to mandate vaccines, but that won't be politically viable.

Just my thoughts - am not Canadian.

Sounds like you've got your own first world problem there :P

Yes; more resiliency, decisions made closer to those impacted and more agility.

I saw a post about slang being linked to platforms shadow blocking and de-monetizing posts with key words i.e. dead, suicide etc. Which lead to "not alive" slang, or something similar.

I'm too old for this.

I've been giving this some thought and the only line I can see is banning the calls for violence against a individual or protected group.

I think anything more or less restrictive causes trouble.

Example points:

  • Cannot discuss declaring war (voilence) on another country.
  • Can never lie or can not cause harm = can not tell a joke.
  • Cannot ban misinformation = who decides? In the 1960 being gay was illegal, should the gay right movement have been banned as misinformation?

Societies grow by challenging norms.

I think our weird society can be fixed by teaching critical thinking in schools and introspection. However, philosophers have been saying similar things for at least 2000 years and it hasn't caught on yet.

Happy to discuss the above as I'd like to work the angles for a better line, if we think there is one.

Can you give us an example of point 1 with regards to hate speech? Or a call for violence against another?

Can you define "hurt". Do you mean physically or emotionally? If the latter then I think it is too restrictive.

From today's video, I'm under the impression the country totals no longer matter and they just need to hit 1 million signatures.

Thank you Ross!

Arch best for gaming?

Hello self hosters, I was wondering if you could fact check my training plan?

I work in Tech but haven't done any hands on programming work since school (visual basic). This was very basic, I built a calculator program.

I've got an idea for an app and think this is a good learning opportunity.

My goals are:

  1. Learn programming skills that I can use for personal projects in the future i.e. making apps, using programs fron github, hosting containers to run Plex etc.

  2. Learn skills that can help in my current job (I work with Engineers but don't do any actual coding).

I am planning to learn the following, more or less, in order:

  • Docker (in the past I've had a lot of trouble trying to code in Virtual Box).
  • Linux command line
  • JavaScript boot camp. Good for coding a single app that will work across, browser IOS and Android.

*Typescript - extension of JS.

*SQL - for apps that require a query to a database

*node.js - for REST APIs and cloud server infrastructure

I may also learn these languages/ methods as I need them:

*Git *Terraform

I appreciate this will be a lot of work and take a long time to master, however I think it is worth the investment from a hobby and professional perspective.

Any recommendations or comments on the above?

Any pointers where I've gone wrong or tips/ideas are greatly appreciated!
