Yeah turns out speech here isn't so free when your opinions run counter to what the mods deem politically correct.

Which is the whole point of freedom of speech.

Free speech that the mods agree with that is. I was perma banned for c/Europe for privately objecting when a moderator removed this image I posted in a reply decrying antisemitic conspiracy theories in their forum. The mods left the libelous post up, and deleted my sarcastic, but otherwise civil response.

Maybe my opinion was wrong, but it certainly wasn't dangerous, hateful, threatening or intentionally misleading, as the original post was. Lemmy has a lot going for it, but let's not pretend that free speech on this site is anything other than window dressing. The Mods are still judge, jury and executioner inside their fiefdoms.

It just hasn't become a problem for the majority of users, because we're a relatively small, ideologically homogeneous community. If the fediverse ever becomes mainstream, you'll start seeing that freedom of speech disappear as moderators sort out the dissenters, and authoritarians work their way into positions of authority.

Their brains should be studied for science. How are they not crushed under the weight of their own contradiction?

Did writing that make you feel better?

By giving kids measles? You've lost your mind.

I'll be voting for the most progressive viable candidate. If that's kamala or AOC or Gavin newsom, yeah we might lose, but that's not going to stop me from vocally supporting them over some joker like Jill Stein who has literally zero chance and knows it.

Radical left wing politicians are not electable outside of small college towns. Democrats, and Americans more generally are not radically left wing. Calling for the death of America, or Israel, or any country really, is not a position that will win you a general election in this country.

I'd say I'm probably more optimistic than most, but I don't know if I'd apply that to the whole population. It's a disorder that affects your ability to perform in the ways society expects you to, and for a lot of people, that sense of failed duty is a weight that they bear every day.

For me tho, I've never really given a fuck what society expects out of me. I live for myself first. If my boss or teachers or parents are pissed because I'm not measuring up to some metric, that's their problem. I'm in a career now where I don't need to worry about finding a new job. They're plentiful. So I just focus on what makes me happy and put in just enough effort to keep my head above water and save a bit for down the line. Work and education have always just been a means to that end. I'd say I'm definitely an outlier in that regard.

I've got bad knees, so running (and a lot of other sports) is out, but I live to bike. I commute every day of the year, rain sleet or snow. It's my favorite part of the day.

The most important part of staying active for me, was finding something that I actually enjoy. If I can trick my ADHD into thinking it's playtime, and not some drudgery that needs to be completed, it becomes a game, and suddenly I can focus for 10 hours straight.
