For each update? I'd be the one with funding issues if I'd do that :D

I may don't know how the law works but I believe (at least in my country) if you agree on the conditions you can't pull a Darth Vader and alter the conditions after signing/ordering and paying.

Now if there is a clause that states otherwise this may change.

But I agree, at least they are open and upfront with it.

While yes, that's true, you can point the domain to have 3rd party DNS servers.
For example Cloudflare.
You could register VMs with them or with another registrar. Same with DNS. Do it with your choice of registrar or use whatever else you maybe actually want.

Does UX really matter?
I'd rather decouple DNS and domain.
Feels like (no proof, just gut feeling) services like Cloudflare have better security and integration than the respective registrars.

I migrated from IONOS and Namecheap to INWX because it does support both domains I use.
And their prices were reasonable.

Migration was quick and neat. Had to issues doing it.

Why so hostile sounding against debian?
What does fedora better?

And that's why you have either a backup for your DNS or know whats auto-updated ;)

As you mention opnsense:
What do you mean with fw rules to only use pihole dns?
This sounds partly like a DHCP config and partly like a deny (hardcoded) DNS requests and to please use what DHCP supplied (looking at you google/amazon)

Already achieved almost 7 tb in movie files (mid/high 1080p and some rare 4k releases)

I mean...if they pay for the service of external analization of data in exchange of money, how is that a sale of goods/data?

Hoped you had already an opinion I could base my research on.
Will try to find some info.

I'm on a shoestring budget at the moment, so I won't really be able to implement a 3-2-1 strategy just yet

Having any sort of functional (best case tested) backup is more than a majority has ever achieved on a computer.

Personally I am using Veeam with a (free) NFR license.
Though the community edition is plenty for most situations.

As for what I backup: It depends.
My main file storage is backed on a volume basis
My gaming/pc is also volume based but I have another job that backs my game ROMs
My linux server is backed fully as to not loose anything on it
My LDAP server as well as my financial VM is fully bavked up because it's so small.
