It's infuriating how stupid and wrong JD Vance is.

First, "people" didn't take Kirk's life. One person did. Nobody else knew about it beforehand.

Second, we don't know exactly how the shooter identified because he hasn't said.

Third, even if he recently identified as left-wing for a year, the entire rest of his life, he was right-wing.

Fourth, a single person, acting alone, cannot be used to make conclusions about a group they are a member of. You have to know the context of the group.

Left-wing people's mainstream rhetoric is significantly less violent than right-wing people's mainstream rhetoric. That's why it's natural to assume that his actions were motivated by his right-wing upbringing, regardless of where his motivations came from.

Fascists need and enemy. They’re trying to paint anyone not on their side as dangerous, to justify hurting us and dehumanize us.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You assume he's not intentionally picking his words in order to manipulate his base for his own political benefit.

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess you're referring to me using the word "stupid." But I am referring to the sentiment that he's expressing. It's not only wrong. It's just so obviously wrong that... let's say the average middle schooler should be able to see through it. It's just stupid.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Ah, I see what you mean now. Sadly, a significant chunk of Americans are all too willing to let a demagogue do the thinking for them.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

its also a person further right than kirk too.

[–] a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world 76 points 3 days ago (2 children)

But he was trans!

Oh wait, I mean, his lover was trans.

Oh wait, I mean his roommate was trans.

Oh wait, surely someone was trans...?

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 24 points 3 days ago

I hear he rode on a train once. Close enough?

[–] Devworker@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Maybe he had a trans frog??

Or like the... bullets!! Yes the bullets were differently trans! How could they do this !! 😭

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 61 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"take the country back" dude, you're the fucking vice president of the United States, your party controls all three branches of government and did so when Kirk was killed...you want to take the country back from yourself or something?

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

They want to purge the country not just be in control.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 11 points 2 days ago

Poor rich white men being such victims of oppression...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The KKK lynched more white people than black people...

History is too important to ignore, they're 100% slow walking their followers to take the hate and violence past racism and apply it to anyone who doesn't agree with them on everything.

I get why the fascist followers don't understand, but it's legitimately scary so many opposed to fascism haven't spent any time at all learning about how these movements work.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Never heard of white KKK hangings. Always colored.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’m not finding a source for your first claim - do you happen to have any?

The KKK is vehemently anti-everything-not-WASP, but it seems majority lynchings were still against black American citizens.

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 days ago

I can’t find any studies for the KKK specifically, but overall lynchings in the US only had the number of white victims exceed the number of black victims once from 1882-1968:

collapsed inline media

And based on some quick research it looks like that might be due to lynchings occurring in the Wild West against accused criminals, not based on racial bias. Given the general character of the KKK I wouldn’t expect the number of white victims they lynched to outnumber the black victims, although they did also target white people who worked with black rights organizations.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 days ago

You’re really living up to my tag for you: “confidently incorrect”.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The way that he has absolutely vanished from most media attention says that NOBODY misses Charlie Kirk. Least of all his wife.

The shooter certainly didn't miss him.

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Savage 👍

[–] themaninblack@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The shooter could have been a trans communist furry and it would be a speck of dust against an overwhelming weight of evidence that the far right, through history, are responsible for severe atrocities.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 days ago

What radicalized me? I never got to read about the executions of all the Confederate traitors in school because we never actually punished them.

[–] elbiter@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You can spend the rest of your life correcting their bullshit. They'll just made up more.

This cultural war is about quantity, not quality.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 12 points 3 days ago

That kid certainly didn't miss him.

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] shittydwarf@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

You heard the man

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Fuck Kirk, Fuck Vance, Fuck Trump

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

..at a red event. On a red campus. In a red city. In a red state.

[–] Branch_Ranch@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Allegedly. I don't believe Charlie's murder went down the way they say it did. So many questions don't have answers. And fuck JD vance.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

The evidence is even sketchier than the Luigi evidence.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They will get around to killing each other eventually. Its not like they can ever be a united front.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 days ago

Pretty sure they said the same thing about the Nazis before they rose to power. They won't unite willingly but they are also predisposed to subjugate themselves to a perceived higher authority and fall in line so long as they get to punch down the hierarchy at someone else.

Sure, their ideology at its core will always cannibalize itself by the functional need of an out-crowd for which to oppress. They simply believe the system will never turn on them because they are naive and stupid, believing themselves to be "one of the good ones" that the system will protect instead of harm. They naively believe that those who get harmed "deserve" it due to faults of the individual's character and will never understand that the system doesn't give a single shit about the individual character of the people who become victimized by it.

[–] Feadogbandit@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

The gun lobby and those funded by them? Sounds good.

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

How does anyone takes these sad and pathetic losers seriously?

How stupid and gullible do you have to be to look up to these fucking clowns? THESE are your role models?

[–] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

If he's insinuating a violent civil war, he'll soon learn not all of us lefties are anti-gun and pacifists.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

and jd vance wants to take over TPUSA, hence why erika wants to sleep with him, because she cant do it on her own.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

ALLEGEDLY

We don't actually know that

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But wasn’t the kid in love with his trans roommate, and therefore not ”one of them”?

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Even if he was, this is still taking one random person's actions and applying them to an entire population. This is also the vice president who should definitely not fucking be the one doing that shit, because statements from a leader of the nation obviously carry infinitely more weight on the national psyche and climate of violence

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Were they Mormon or Christian?

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (3 children)
[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Mormons might say that. Christians say Mormons are a cult. There are pretty big differences in their fundamental beliefs about God.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

By definition a Christian is someone who believes in Christ and Mormons do unequivocally. Though they are no more a cult than any other religion. Every denomination of every religion thinks every other denomination or religion is wrong and a cult, hence why religion does more harm than good in my opinion. 10 billion people, 10 billion religions. Except atheists and agnostics we are all on the same page, but that's not a "religion"

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

By definition, all religions are a cult. Usually the catholic grievance is about the adherence of the trinity.

a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.

[–] cristo@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The definition of Christian is "one who believes in Christ" I'm aware that Christians don't want Mormons to be part of their in group, but they do believe in Christ and the Bible, so if you want them out you would have to change the fundamental definition of "Christianity". It's wild how many people don't understand the fundamental definitions of words that we all agree to use. I'm literally not asserting anything except that they believe in Christ, and religious people want to freak out about it and say no they don't? Great example of how religion is pernicious and divisive.

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago

All the churches that I've ever visited deny that Mormons are Christian.
