Russia's President Vladimir Putin has said there will be no more wars after Ukraine if Russia is treated with respect - and claims that Moscow is planning to attack European countries are "nonsense".

What a hilariously worthless statement given how many of his promises Putin has ever kept: Zero.

[–] llamatron@lemmy.world 86 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah right. And meanwhile he'll still be running the bot farms, relentless disinformation campaigns and killing people he doesn't like on foreign soil.

Respect is earned.

And 'hybrid warfare' anchor dragging across international telecom cables, etc, etc.

“I swear, this is our last imperialist incursion into another sovereignty if you respect us by giving us the land we encroached upon and other economic rewards for having done it. Pinky swear!”

[–] MonsterMonster@lemmy.world 44 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Putin is on the back foot.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

This isn't the first story that had me feeling the same. He's not flat out desperate yet, but the fall is inevitable.

As if Putler can be trusted.

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 31 points 3 days ago

In 2004 Putin said: We have settled all our border issues. What this amounts to is full and absolute recognition of and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, not only as concerns its land borders, but also its sea borders. Source: http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/transcripts/22661

Liar tells a lie.

What about "special military operations" which is what Putin was calling his invasion of Ukraine?

His words are worthless.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 day ago

He also told us he wasn't invading Ukraine.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 18 points 3 days ago

"I will not attack any countries after ~~Austria~~ Georgia and ~~Poland~~ Ukraine." I think I've heard this song before.

Yeah, as long as the world regularly respectfully cedes land, resources and slaves then russia won't go to war at all with anybody.

No more wars? But Ukraine isn't even a war. It's a special military operation. He needs to promise no more of those.

On 5 December 1994, at a ceremony in Budapest, Ukraine joined Belarus and Kazakhstan in giving up their nuclear arsenals in return for security guarantees from the United States, the UK, France, China and Russia.

This aged like fine milk.

I'd never show Putin what men like him believe respect to be. It's never short of complete submission.

[–] RamRabbit@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

I'll take this into consideration if you withdraw to your own borders in the current war your started...

But, Maldova, Poland, Estonia, <..and more> are really already part of Russia if you think about it. And Russia needs to protect it's borders, so if you have a border, abutting Russia, you're really already part of Russia. Mirroring the circular logic justification for Israeli settlements.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Also, Russia technically isn't at war right now either.

Bully tactics. Why are mental children in power everywhere currently?

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Oh, well if you pinky promise. /s

I think the most interesting thing here is the trajectory of Russian demands. They've really moved closer and closer to an actually reasonable ask over the past few months. It makes me think they know exactly when they're going to run out of stuff.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

You will respect me at the point of this gun.

Buddy, you're clearly angling for a takeover of Belarus openly. Try not to have your next target picked out when you make shit up about respect.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

PTP (Putin or Trump Promises) = wipe your ass with it.

[–] leriotdelac@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago

What a joke of a person. Wish he starts burning in hell yesterday.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Not trying to be funny, but I thought this was The Onion at first glance.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 8 points 1 day ago

Just special military operations, obviously. Not wars. Wars are a bad thing.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And by "respect," he mans capitulation and servility.

I'm surprised he didn't demand thanks for the restraint Russia has exercised by not having defeated Ukraine yet.

[–] modernangel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

Liar says what

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

then be respectable and hold legitimate elections you Nazi piece of shit.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

"Trust me, bro!"

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

We did and you started wars. First end those wars and start acting more respectable.

[–] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 5 points 3 days ago

So... give us what we want or we'll take it by force, in other words?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Just like he promised after stealing the Crimea in 2014?

Respect the criminal.

Before the war, ordinary Russians were slowly getting fed up with Putin. As per the dictator's playbook, Putin is stoking the base tribalism of the citizens to distract them from his government's own corruption. The world respects Russia, it's only that the world doesn't respect him.

What about special military operations tho?

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Why does his hands look like gloves made from a corpse
