"They should come here legally!"

"They're trying."

"Wait what they are? Well we'd better stop that then!"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Well, in this case, "they" means white immigrants.

[–] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 32 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Well they've certainly fucked up tourism.

I'm not going anywhere near America again until 2029.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

I'd join you but all my stuff is there.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Even if the Democrats win back the country (a big if), the US has shown itself to be a fascist corporatist hellscape. I'm not sure I can visit it in good conscience before it seriously changes for good (like overhaul of the political system for good).

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

What do you think is going to change in 2029? The Trump administration isn't going anywhere unless violently forced out

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago

I won't be satisfied til tourism is at 0

Ironically, this will increase illegal immigration. But maybe that's what they want?

[–] egerlach@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, they don't want any immigration, except from white South Africa apparently.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's the messaging, sure. But I think maybe they do want more illegal immigration since that's one of their winning issues. And it's a useful excuse to build a secret police force whose ultimate purpose will be to go after dissidents.

You're projecting competence. That plan is about 4 layers too deep for them

They have no plan to survive the midterms, let alone stabilize their rule. They're not even deporting more people than Biden was, the bottleneck is still the number of judges. The ICE facilities are all full

The plan is, give right wing terrorist groups guns and tell them to get wacky with it. Oh, and make sure we get some tik tok footage

It's all that straightforward.

Did you know we accidentally invaded Mexico a few weeks back? Like, full on beach assault style. And then sheepishly packed up when the "fog of war" cleared

The master plan isn't project 2025 - that's a wishlist from crazy Technocracy people

No, the master plan is to loot the government and get away with it by earning favors from the oligarchs

The cabinet has already sold their homes to live on military bases... Does that sound like a long term plan? Or does it sound like a rat waiting for a good time to cut and run?

[–] Truthtwopower@lemmy.zip 22 points 1 day ago (4 children)

For what reason other than racism?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

None. Its always been about the racism. They were just less blatant about it.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s really about control and power. Get as many people as possible to identify with your in-group by othering an out-group. Racism is one way. Anti-immigration broadens the out-group and in-group pools and can even lure in minorities into your in-group.

With enough in-group support you can consolidate power and do whatever the fuck you want. It never works for long but these people are cowards and cowards don’t think about the long-term.

[–] AreaKode@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup. The root cause is keeping the poors fighting amongst themselves so they don't look up at the politicians and billionaires robbing them blind

The policies that divide left and right have no effect on the corporate sponsors.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

True. The racism has been a key component in keeping the division going, but more recently, trans and inter-generational nonsense has been thrown in.

The trans aspect has given them a LOT of traction in the past ten years or so, since they lost on the gay marriage thing. It probably led to where we are right now, in fact. People like Megyn Kelly said it was their #1 concern. Imagine that - number one out of all the things to be concerned with. She might just be cosplaying for dollars like all these right wing bullshit artists, but still - I'm sure lots of the right are positively obsessed with the "issue" of trans.

We'll see how the inter-generational warfare plays out for them. It seems to be going pretty well so far, since I see lots and lots of the so-called "left" falling for this shit, too. The inter-generational stuff might be more about trying to fracture the left than it is about distracting the right, but we'll see how it plays out.

He wants to sell more golden cards with his face on them.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Racism is what motivates most of conservatism.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Less competition for American workers(similar story for tariffs). There is a reason for unemployment is so low and that is mainly that the US is loosing population to migration, which has not been the case for basically ever. The issue is that the trade war is hurting the US economy, so workers do not really benefit from it.

At the same time capitalist like it to a degree, as it makes migrants much more dependent on their jobs, then American workers. As in visas often depend on having a job.

Obviously capitalists still want migrants to exploit.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is a reason for unemployment is so low

According to whom? Because I'm extremely skeptical of literally everything that comes from this administration.

[–] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 1 points 7 hours ago

The Federal Reserve has unemployment figures as well and they are relatively low. They also claim the US is loosing jobs, so not a great future for them.

"We will stop illegal immigrants."
"These aren't illegal, they came here correctly through the proper channels."
"We will stop these loopholes and deem everyone we don't like as illegal immigrants"
"But that is unconstitutio.."
"ARREST HIM. HE'S AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!"

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 5 hours ago

I literally got a text saying "Breaking! Dems to pass bill making path for illegals to become legal!"

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

because some guy decided to do something illegal and unconscionable—shooting other people

Can we please stop this narrative that shooting an occupying army is bad?

The murders by the military in the Caribbean are war crimes or Crimes against humanity, because they murdered civilians.

But when someone shoots an armed military member, that's a valid target.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 17 hours ago

Might as well get it overwith. Now, let's call all the people who said he's only against ILLEGAL immigration

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

How do capitalists like that Donny is stopping them from hiring workers from outside the US? This won't past long as long as we have capitalism that doesn't solve for why we have immigrants in the first place. Sounds like we have all the incentive to keep immigrants from wanting to move here in the first place. Any other solution is a band aid, if ending emmigration to the US is desirable goal, which I doubt.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 3 points 7 hours ago

He isnt stopping them; they just move the work oveeseas
