That doesn't really fit when you realize these are USB 2.0 without e-markers.
In other words: below average specs for way above average prices.
3A charging is bare minimum for USB-C, not "fast".
These are headed for the trash as soon as the user needs anything above bare minimum.
They do a 60W C to C cable, that should definitely provide other charging modes. Probably 3A at 20V.
3A at 5V would be fairly slow, yes, but you don't get higher power levels by just increasing the current - in fact most charging modes don't go above 3A. I expect the other cables also allow for higher charging voltages.
Heat loss is proportional to current squared, so keeping current down is ideal.
Huh? 3 amps is the minimum spec for USBc cables. They go up to 5 amp which is how you get 100w chargers (20v x 5a) and 240w (48v x 5a).
The comment above said they were 3A charging and that that wasn't "fast". I haven't seen the charging spec for these cables, but they do have a 60W cable. 60W is fast charging, and is likely achieved with 3A at 20V. It's not as fast as 100W or 240W, sure, but it's as fast as most phones will go.
These cables probably aren't rated for 100W or above. Most cables aren't. However, you can get multiple longer cables rated for that much power for less than one of these.
Love the mission, but they are some very very expensive cables.
How is this more repairable than any other cable? Their repair instructions are literally "get a bunch of tools, cut that thing open, resolder and reseal". Is their "repairable" aspect that they are only using shrink tubing on the outside of the plugs saving money on material too? Yeah, I bet I'll need to repair those a lot.
Also, those are some fucking expensive cables.
We do actually need more of this, non-Chinese cable manufacture. USB cables these days contain microcontrollers (to negotiate charging power, it's not just between the device and charger anymore but a 3-way decision including the cable) and these microcontrollers can have all sorts of dodgy functionality on top - but are still indistinguishable through most inspection methods. Such functionality can include wifi hotpots allowing remote configuration and script injectors to hack devices plugged in.
This problem is so significant that Microsoft changed how Windows handles USB devices and made many existing USB to RS232 serial leads non-functional in Windows 11.
However โฌ25 for a single 1m USB A to C cable is insane. That would be like โฌ3 on Amazon or eBay.
Bummer, I just bought two new USB yesterday.
