previously proposed rules giving the US military the right to repair its equipment without having to rely on contractors have gone missing

This is particularly stupid. Soldiers need the ability to fix their gear in the field with or without a contractor's blessing.

It’s kinda like the farmers and John Deere equipment, only with more lives on the line.

This reality tv governance makes us and everyone else less safe.

That's good for the rest of the world because it means the supply lines are going to be much harder to maintain when they invade other countries like Venezuela, Greenland and Canada.

That doesn't seem optimally profitable though

Oh, look at that - someone attached an "unpopular" (for Congress) addition to a bill, and instead of sinking the entire bill to the bottom of the ocean, they simply removed it and moved forward.

Here I am having watched American politics for the past 20 years believing that once something is attached, it can't be removed. Every bill I've read about that would prevent babies dying gets something akin to "Presidential Pedo Protection Act" attached. I've never seen the discussion that the PPPA section can be removed so instead they must veto the entire bill.

Unbelievable.

I can already see cartoons about soldiers at war, with jammed guns, having to call customer support, who say things like "have you tried turning it off and on again".

Listen, it's military contractors we're talking about.

Their entire business is about how to efficiently incapacitate a target to bring down enemy operations. That enemy is any threat to their profits, their weapon is lobbying money, and the targets they fire at are the two Congresspeople who have the power to remove the provision over everyone else's objection.

Of fucking course they did.
