Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

So what will be the consequences?

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 55 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He's a Republican, and there's no "R" in "consequences"....

[–] bluemellophone@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

It’s neither here or there, but there’s no “D” in “consequences” either….

There's two R's in "corruption".

Some news paper or maybe a senator will slam him. Then nothing else will happen.

To true, unless you get a state to make the arrest and charge him, Trump would just pardon him. And no state leader (governor) wants to challenge him enough. If there was such, they would arrest him when he landed in the U.S. hold him without bail as he is a flight risk and sentence him to 3 years prison.

And Trump would throw a hissy fit and declare war against a state, which any member of the executive branch who followed up on those orders would be violating their oath, as the arrest and punishment were legally binding

President can't pardon state charges

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

That's what I said

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

If there were any, they'd be absolved with a pardon or the sentence commuted.

Nothing! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Not so long as his father in law is head of the consequences department

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 55 points 1 day ago

The funny thing is, I can't tell if this is a new article or one from nearly a decade ago by the headline alone.

As a representative of the Trump administration, he technically qualifies as a Special Government Employee — a designation that requires specific legal guidelines.

However, "Trump has not named Kushner an SGE," noted Legum, even though a 1977 Department of Justice opinion suggests that performing governmental functions under presidential direction can constitute an official capacity.

"Here, Kushner is engaged in activities that can only be conducted by government officials," wrote Legum.

If he isn't a special government employee acting in an official capacity, but rather a private citizen negotiating with a foreign goverment on behalf of the US, he's committing a felony violation of The Logan Act. Not that such things matter anymore, but still.

Meh. Consequences are for the poor.

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Since when does the law apply to anyone in the Trump family?

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 10 points 1 day ago

Always. It's just not enforced

Can it just be a damn rule to include an archive link for sites like this already, cmon

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We're hesitant to put Lemmy in a position of copyright issues, but we do encourage archive links in the body as a secondary option to the original, so long as it's not presented as the primary or only option.

Eh i can understand that.

I wish there was a way to have libredirect handle this kind of thing. Not sure if there is another plugin that would do it...

The Tesseract front end does that for you.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago

How do you create one?

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Rules for thee but not for me

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago

All of them break the law multiple times a day.

They are so cute when they think laws mean anything to the predator class.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 16 hours ago

At this point, so what?
