Trump administration lists reporting it objects to in latest escalation of attacks on US journalism

The White House rolled out a new section of its official website on Friday that publicly criticizes and catalogs media organizations and journalists it claims have distorted coverage.

At the top of the page, the text reads: “Misleading. Biased. Exposed.” The feature names the Boston Globe, CBS News and the Independent as “media offenders of the week”, accusing them of inaccurately portraying Trump’s remarks about six Democratic lawmakers who released of video encouraging military members to not follow illegal orders.

The controversy arose after Trump accused Democrats of “seditious behavior, punishable by death” on social media. He also reposted a statement including the words: “hang them.”

According to the site, “The Democrats and Fake News Media subversively implied that President Trump had issued illegal orders to service members. Every order President Trump has issued has been lawful. It is dangerous for sitting Members of Congress to incite insubordination in the United States’ military, and President Trump called for them to be held accountable.”

So we can just say what we want right? He literally gave his opinion on how they should’ve been tried… it was death. You can see them on his social media posts… how is that mis reported? So on that mental gymnastic, I can say “President Trump is a traitor to our country and his crimes are punishable by death!” And that shouldn’t be a problem, right?

The only difference being that your statement would be an accurate reflection of reality.

Mostly just because the commander in chief has the strategic mind of a toddler and thinks accusing others of exactly what he is guilty that week of is good strategy.

Seems to be a good strategy to me, it got him elected twice. And it got an entire political party under his thumb, so that they don't think at all about crossing him.

Ah the ol’ logic and reason bit eh.

I don't see how anyone could believe that Trump's orders for the US military to destroy civilian boats were legal.

They're non-military targets nowhere near the US who were not doing anything violent at the time. The flimsy excuse to kill them could be used to kill anybody.

Trump seems to want complete press fealty, like a king.

This is ABSURD! MAYBE if the News Media CONTINUES to Frame Trump POSITIVELY he'll Back off!

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 6 points 53 minutes ago

It's awfully nice of him to list all the reporting that dares to piss him off.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Don't they already have several such sites? Like most of social media, Breitbart, Faux, OAN, and on and on?

[–] ytsedude@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I appreciate the use of the vocab word "excoriate."

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Just imagine thinking that Donald Trump knew what the word "excoriate" means.

I'm so old I remember Mike Pence being a Governor and an idea like this got him laughed at.

Wow, the US really is just a complete clown show - the usual ridiculousness has increased many times over since January, and so has the greed. But yet: there is hardly any serious resistance to the obvious establishment of a dictatorship. Well, the citizens are probably so used to living in an unjust state that they think it wouldn't make any difference.

For everyone else in the world, it probably won't really make a difference, except that they'll have to deal with another mentally ill despot. But I think that despite all the regime's open organized crime, despite its brutish violence, the majority of US citizens still don't understand what it means to live in a dictatorship.

We can only hope that the US will not resort to excessive use of its inflated military apparatus when the country inevitably continues to decline. Given the viciousness of the regime, this is unfortunately to be expected.

It would be great if the Americans could finally lock these criminals away, but to be honest, I gave up hope of that a long time ago.

I'll suck Bill Clintons naughty bits if the president of the United States can spell excoriated on camera live with no teleprompter.
