Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Conservatives is probably a better label.

Don't let them make you forget about marketing and capitalism that sucks all good from human progress of genuine good invention and art.

Here's the thing: This is total bullshit.

Chartering organizations like churches have the option to create a boys troop, a girl's troop, or two separate. Completely at their discretion. If they want a boys only space they can have one. This is just macho posturing that is going to have a major effect on turning a lot of youth even more against this administration

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Yep. So very true. When you are looking at lists of troops, they are marked as to whether they have girls or not.

But you know how butthurt the right wing authoritarians (RWAs) typically are. RWAs want to ruin things for EVERYONE. They cannot tolerate people doing their own thing.

Can I go on the record here as saying this is sexist bullshit?

Scouts letting girls in does not make them somehow not "boy-friendly". It just lets dads and moms and brothers bring their daughters and sisters to do "boy-things"

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

This being sexist bullshit is entirely the point with thin-skinned assholes like Hegseth.

When it first happens I was like don't they have girl guides but then found out girl guides is completely different then scouts. So who cares if a girl want to do outdoor stuff.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 13 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The scouts opened up due to falling enrollment. A business model that cuts out 50% of your availability demographic will never work. That's why the girl scouts have cookies. Otherwise, they would have opened up to boys as well.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Girl guides is not the same as scouts. And the 50% did work for a long time. But there is a lot less interest in outdoor stuff in general.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

That all depends on the chapter. Some are fully mixed others separate but equal. This is such a none issue for normal people.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 16 hours ago

Just cut off Hegseth's head.

What a whiny little bitch.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

So are they sad that there are underage girls mixed in with their underage boys?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

This is stupid, but honestly I don't know know that I'm that upset. I'm an Eagle Scout, and one issue I have with it is that it's designed as a pipeline to the military partially. If the military pulls funding then they have no incentive for this. It's stupid for them to cut funding for this at a time when military sign-ups are below what they need, but I don't know that it's a bad thing long-term for scouting.
