I don't like it, with press present harder for Trump to bull some bullshit. Behind closed doors anything can happen. They could claim he tried to attack trump why he had to be killed. For fucksakes they called him a terrorist. No way he should be meeting the president in private.
I'm not into consperacy but you're right. On the other hand .... Trump is stupid enough to have him killed any day of the week

Honestly, I think this is the best option. Nothing good would have come of their conversation being in public.
He keeps trying to pass himself off as a smart man, and there's just no way to keep up that act if you've got an actually smart man talking to you.

In what way? Because I hate to remind you but Trump is a literal fascist.
In the same way that the 50 year mortgage guy got Trump on board despite all his aides and everyone else hating it. Hes not a hard man to trick.
Trump is a (self-proclaimed) billionaire; of course he's not going to object to more exploitation of the working class. It's a whole different conversation when it's something that will hurt the owner class.
Hes also been harping on affordability and his approval rating has cratered. If he was gonna strong man this meeting I think there's no shot he doesn't want to do that in front of a camera. Im not telling you he's going in good faith, but I know he likes the popularity Mamdani generated and will seek to find out how to do that himself. His ego has always been his weakness. If he was smart enough to just shut up, I bet almost none of his felonies would have stuck. Again Im not claiming this is a likely scenario but I do believe there's more to it than a screaming match.
Edit: A friend just sent me this, and said he wished Schmer or Jefferies said anything this nice about Mamdani.
I guess I have no expectations for Trump to take anything positive away from this meeting.
But think in private he’s more likely to let Mamdani talk. In public it would just be a pissing contest for him.

He doesn't actually want to "smoke" anyone, he wants to secure his business, and that business is running one of the most important cities on Earth. Cities outlast people, outlast nations. Mandani is taking his job seriously enough that he doesn't want to have to manage his meeting with the head of the federal government through public perception.
He is far more capable of negotiating politics and deal-making than Trump, but in order to have any business relationship at all, he has to make compromises and concessions. This is normal and fine, but a lot of people are going to take it wrong. We have to be understanding of this fact, because Mandani WILL at some point do or say things that will cause concern or be misunderstood in the larger scope of politics.

Nah, trump couldn't even open his mouth without pissing off his base. Any footage would call attention to his base that he let the "devil" in.
I disagree. I think Mamdani would have made a fool out of Trump while trying not to. He still will, but now we won't get to see it.
You want entertainment. He wants to take the job seriously. The mayor of New York wants to secure some form of business dealing going forward and do right by his constituency.
When his hands are tied behind public image, he can't talk openly about a lot of things that would make the general public panic or not understand the meaning and context. We tend to forget or choose to forget that even the best politics is still public perception management.

The press secretary said the meeting speaks to the fact that Trump is willing to meet with anyone to do what’s right on behalf of the American people, but she didn’t let it go without attempting a dig at the mayor-elect and Democratic Party.

This is the fucking press secretary talking like a child. It's like hearing an adult that still mispronounces words and says things like "supposably" instead of supposedly. They also think it's some big own, but collectively, they all look like children and I want to see the press grow a spine and ask them why they do this. I mean, Donvict is calling them "piggy" and other insults anyway, they might as well ask about this as well.
Start shaming these motherfuckers, even over what is something others might call "trivial" - this is an orchestrated thing and has been for decades.
Imagine if every single Democratic politician, every single talking head, everywhere were to sync up on a misnomer for the Republican Party and start using that. It is not like it would not pass without comment, but for some reason, all these assholes, from the very top, always and constantly walk around saying "Democrat Party" with a shit-eating grin on their face. They know what they are doing, and NOT commenting on it is not doing anyone any favors.

I am once again begging people to not post headlines that start with “Trump, 79,” that doesn’t end with. Well. You know. The start of the party.
He’s going to be the mayor of NYC. He has no choice but to meet with the President. Besides, he’s upholding a campaign promise to meet with anyone (see article).
After all the shit Trump said about home during the election, the shit the press secretary said about the “communist coming to the White House,” the absolute best thing Mamdani can do right now is nothing. Let these idiots fall over themselves backtracking and unsaying all the shit they’ve spewed. All he has to do is stand there with a smile and not say shit. Even if Trumps base never comes around on him, he was never going to win those people. He’s already won all he was ever going to win when Trump said positive things about him after the meeting. No need for him to say anything else. Just go back to NY, wake up tomorrow and get on with his life.

Any Democrat or progressive worth a damn shouldn't meet with him on camera. He'd rather have sound bytes than actual productive conversation.
I am very cynical. I don't think there will be productive conversation happening in private either. I'd be more inclined to think threats and intimidation will be the brunt of it. The orange turd thinks he's a mobster, but does have the backing of Russia and Israel.

I've known a couple of mob people. They're just people with low moral ethics. They extort, blackmail and bribe for their own benefit. They usually have the smart people work for them. Trump is smart about putting a fake gold leaf over everything where people don't look too closely at how he's an actual mob guy. He did business with the russian mob ffs.
