I get my US news mostly from lemmy and there's been a definite uptick of Epstein files info articles since maybe 2 days ago; what actually happened?

But how? And why now (and not much earlier)? Is this part of the administration not dominated by Republicans?
Hell, I live in the States and I haven't looked into it, but I'm assuming it was from the elected official who was denied swearing in for almost 2 months because Johnson was being a little bitch about everything. With her vote, they had the numbers to force this to happen.

AFAIK this particular set of emails have come straight from the Epstein estate and weren't part of the files the GOP are still trying to prevent being released. I don't think we know the exact details of when the estate passed them over to the House Oversight Committee or why they decided to release them now.
Because the Democrats folded on the budget impasse which will likely result in ten of millions losing healthcare and they need a distraction.
