Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Donald Trump has attended his second extravagant party at Mar-a-Lago in a week as tens of thousands of federal employees go without pay, leaving some of them, and many more Americans, to turn to food banks amid the longest government shutdown in history.

Images of the president were shared by guests on social media Friday at the lavish event which featured a three-course menu of beef filet, truffle dauphinoise, pan-seared scallops and a trio of desserts including “Trump chocolate cake.”

Trump was seen dining at a table surrounded by MAGA supporters, and posing with his thumbs up next to women in ballgowns. The event also featured ice sculptures and an opera performance.

This is seriously “let them eat cake” levels of maliciousness and the people are too fucking stupid to do anything about it. I thought I had become jaded about things but now I’m just flabbergasted. Propaganda really fucking worked better than anything has in human history.

We are territorial animals. Creating a shared enemy for your tribe/pack/herd etc to fear/hate works better than anything, even to the extent you will turn a blind eye to your sides leaders blatant incompetence and corruption. He might be shit, but he’s our shit. We did the same thing when Biden was a gibbering doddery oap, and Labour are doing it now in the UK despite Starmer and Co governing from the sodding right.

Unrelated. Does anyone have a list of poisons that are undetectable in an autopsy? It's for a friend.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 27 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Does it matter if it's detectable? When he dies it's gonna be a conspiracy that he was murdered anyways.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

There's also gonna be conspiracy theories that he's alive and in hiding

Nothing that's going to dodge a tox screen, you would want to go accidental. I am a big supporter of some Visine in his coke, but some nitrates would probably cause a heart attack given his likely meds to deal with the swelling.

I've been saying for years that all it takes is one heroic McDonald's worker

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 21 points 12 hours ago

He's gotta spend the money somewhere, so he can blame the Dems for the empty coffers in spite of tariff income.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This is the kind of thing that leads to revolutions

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago

Does he actually not eat McDonald’s on such occasions?
