Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Clean food, conditions, and safety should be afforded every incarcerated individual.

Could not agree more. I remember people that were even more centrist having (negative) hot-takes to Michael Moore when he was showing the prison system in another country that was far more enlightened, and that kind of thing continues to disappoint me.

The best progress, such as it is, that I've seen when it comes to prison in this country are on two fronts - one, I've seen moderators in some corners (like Wonkette's comment section) that will come down on "jokes" about rape, even male rape prison. But for most of my life, I it's just common currency to hear people think that it is hilarious that men will be subjected to rape in prison. Because if they are not able to fight off a rape, that makes them gayyyy, geddit? I have just never understood why that is considered a real kneeslapper.

Most of these same people, would never think to "joke" about women getting raped in prison. It's one of those weird cultural things that I hope is changing. Even W had some effort at trying to crack down on it, rather than just thinking it is somehow normal to have males getting raped as part of a supposed rehabilitation system...

But in general, this country has a very weird moral system that is all too prevalent. Obviously not everyone, but just enough to be problematic, that's for sure.

Go to prison, no matter how trivial (or non-existent) the offense? Well, if you are male, maybe rape is part of the experience, because you probably deserve that for reasons. And certainly for everyone that goes to prison, they should be fed rotten food and unclean water and subjected to violence of other kinds, too.

Because that's just some real "morality" at work.

Well said. I see this disgusting attitude among so many "leftists," even. It's disturbing.

I've seen the same - at least when talking about sending some wingnut off to prison. I'm glad places like Wonkette ride herd on that really well. When it comes to moderation, it's hard to get it right, but that place seems to do it about as well as one could ask...

I think BoingBoing might have had a thing about moderating that out, too, but at some point some years ago, they completely jumped the shark on moderation, and it turned into a navel-gazing far-left Oppression Olympics circle-jerk and no real conversations of any real kind could take place there. And then they took their comments behind a paywall, LOL, so they now stand as a shining example of how NOT to moderate, IMHO.

sure seems like it only goes to those with wealth and connections though

I think that's why everyone is so disgusted by this. I'm not upset that a prisoner serving her time is living as a human. I'm annoyed that this is highly unusual, and she is one of the few that is, and it's because of her status.

I'd rather ALL prisoners got this kind of treatment, not just certain privileged ones.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 27 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

LOL, "allegations of special treatment".

Also, why is she the only one in prison?

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 29 points 10 hours ago

For some reason when the American president fucks and traffics kids any and all law enforcement just throw their hands up in the air and shrug, at all levels. And the American people elect him, again

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The other one is dead and the third one is POTUS.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Aren't there a lot more involved, though?

And one of them used to have a royal title. Used to.

In this Democrat-manufactured hoax? Which is critical to release to ensure justice fir victims but which is also not existing and is on Bondi’s desk? Of course not, otherwise Patel would be guilty of false statements to Congress for saying only Epstein did it. The hoax. Which doesn’t exist now.

Good things come to those who wait.
