Alternate headline: Bannon tells GOP they've been doing just an absolute fuckton of crimes.

Maybe if you didn't do a bunch of blatently illegal/immoral shit that could solve the whole prison issue too?

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 104 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Prison? I was hoping for public executions

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Me too. The catharis from seeing the moment of shock and fear just as the guillotine's blade touches the skin on their neck will make all of this worth it.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago

I was hoping more for a Mussolini style upside down hanging in public where anyone who wishes to can desecrate their corpses.

That's a coup right? That sounds a LOT like a coup.

[–] derry@midwest.social 27 points 1 day ago

It's only a coup if it happens in the coup region of the world. Otherwise it's just sparkling facism

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's technically not a coup since the US Citizens voted them into power in order to do this.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Ahh. Just hitler vibes then.

You can coup democratic rule. The rulers of America, in the theory of republican liberalism, being the voters (though you could also laugh at that assertion it has theoretical principles on its side if not reality)

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 68 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you have to change the way the country works so you don’t go to prison, you should already be there.

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The guy is admitting to planning a coup; he's a terrorist.

[–] Todd_cross@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago

Technically that's treason, so he's a traitor (unless you're saying he's that and a terrorist, in which case nevermind)

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

And still nobody is gonna stop him

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 54 points 2 days ago

Don’t threaten us with a good time, Steve.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 48 points 2 days ago (10 children)

Don't worry Bannon, Democrat leadership doesn't exactly have the best track record of holding criminals and actual enemies of the people accountable for their crimes.

[–] overthere@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Exactly. I’ll eat my hat if any of the key people gave any consequences at all when all this is over. It will be all, “we have to look forward, not backward.” I wouldn’t be shocked if an elected Democratic president pardoned Trump and his goons so that we can “heal as a nation.”

[–] asRomeBurns1979@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Garland’s understandable desire to appear a-political in the Jan 6th and Trump cases will be a stick the left use to beat the moderates in the Democrat party for decades, and rightly so.

If Garland hadn’t wasted 15 months working from the bottom (rioters) up Trump would probably be in prison now. I think he was well intentioned but didn’t have the bottle to be the guy who put the wheels in motion for banging up a President.

They need to be tried for treason, and punished accordingly.

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago

This is what I thought during the first term, and yet... here we are again

[–] manxu@piefed.social 43 points 2 days ago

The core message seems to be: since Trump is doing everything by executive order, the next time a Democrat holds the office of the presidency, ALL of it will be undone. And some of it, in his view, will be declared illegal in the first place. Like, I don't know, the DOGE takeover early in the year. Or the imprisonment of citizens and legal immigrants because racism.

Biden didn't do any of it. He didn't even push for the Trump tax cuts from 2017 to be undone, which was insane. I sense that's part of the reason Harris lost in 2024, and it seems that the Democrats of 2025 are starting to smell the wind of change. Because the country and the voters forced them to.

I was horrified in 2022 when both Biden and Yellen went on the record stating they believed the high inflation was just temporary and not a larger concern. This time around it's Trump telling America prices are down and the economy is booming.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You mean the people who betrayed America and let hundred of thousand of Americans needlessly die in the pandemic?

Then cut aid to foreign governments so they could bail out their authoritarian friends causing hundreds of thousands more people around the world to die needlessly?

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When by a miracle the upcoming 2026 voting fraud and roadblocks will be undone, and 2028's election is fair and brings a FULL landslide democratic win.

Then the Democrats must go full in on a blaze of justice and condemn everyone in the current administration, including local government, think-tanks and anyone who enriched themselves unfairly, as conspirators in an evil coup to convict them with the highest penalties.

If they do not ... the country will be lost in a prolonged smouldering fire of fascism.

A "national pardon" to keep the balance is not a proper solution to this.

But, read what I started with and you'll see there are enormous hurdles to overcome, I am not convinced the current administration will let any of it happen.

The king in all but name is already here, and 2028 will likely have seen the crowning ceremony.

These people have been gleefully plotting to form hunting parties to track and murder minorities and anyone who’s against their agenda. Prison would be too lenient.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's not "those who will be targeted," it's those who broke the law. How is it that a group can claim they should arrest and detain/deport people for filling out a piece of paper wrong 14 years ago that had nothing to do with fraud, embezzlement, or hurting anyone. Just trying to work a 9-5 and provide for their families, yet this group can turn around and support people who are openly admitting they have committed crimes and should commit more while asking others to commit crimes to stay out of prison in the future.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Just trying to work a 9-5 and provide for their families

Yeah, but did they do this while being brown?

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 27 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Bannon is a piece of shit ghoul but of MAGAs most influential assholes he’s ones of the few that has enough guile to understand what will happen if they somehow lose the gambit they’ve embarked upon. Things are only going to escalate from here after the big loses they suffered Tuesday and as the economy continues to ride a unicycle on a 2x4 across the Grand Canyon

If a 2028 Democratic presidential candidate has any platform other than arresting Republican figureheads, I will not support them. Lawbreakers and criminals belong in prison.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'll be honest, I would not have had the left campaigning on "lock him up" but I'm not sure there can be any other option.

If they cop out with some unity bullshit it will just happen again in 4 years when people forget or decide they need a change or whatever.

Yay 2 party systems.

Oh, Steve. If there's any justice in the world, you'll never see the inside of a prison. Just the inside of a blindfold.

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I've never agreed more with Steve Bannon. Unfortunately I don't think Dems have the balls

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I demand Trump and his cronies be arrested

It's a good thing for them that I don't get to make the decisions, because prison would not be what I decide.
