FIFA awarding a peace price? The organization who loves to organize world cups in dictatorial regimes and countries with huge human rights violations like where slavery is used to build the football stadiums and women have no rights and are being stoned to death? Wow, their peace prize will really mean something then. Who are the nominees? Trump, Netanyahu and Putin?

[–] mudstickmcgee@sh.itjust.works 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Trump is going to get it, didn't fifa do a whole circle jerk with him a while ago?

Maybe they'll try to trade the prize to get the trophy back 😅

Hey, I think it's going to go to MBS

I don’t even follow sports, and I was outraged by Russia being awarded host in 2018. All the experts said England should have won that bid.

If you were upset by Russia hosting the 2018 FIFA World Cup, you should not look up Qatar hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

To enable Saudi Arabia to host 2034 the 2030 World Cup was bizarrely spread across Europe (Spain and Portugal), Africa (Morocco) and 3 matches in South America (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay).

When hosts for a World Cup are selected the confederations for the previous 2 world cups are excluded, thus North America (from 2026), South America, Europe and Africa were all excluded from even applying. Conveniently leaving the door much wider open from Saudi Arabia than it normally would have been.

Maybe Israel can convert Gaza into an Olympic town and football stadium. Free workers too!

The Olympics were also held in nazi Germany. Both FIFA and the International Olympic Committee do not care about human rights. They only care about money.

Don't forget that they moved the deadline for presenting a candidate just so Australia couldn't run.

Fifa in league with an authoritarian regime? Why i never...

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You can't really call them corrupt if the purpose of the entire organization is to commit crime and defraud the general public. You know, like.. is the mob corrupt?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Mafia + Fifa. = MaFifa? Or Mafifia?

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 2 points 18 hours ago

No, no... Mafia = Fifa

[–] Nomad@infosec.pub 13 points 1 day ago

Somebody has seen a chance to appease Trump without carrying the name Nobel.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 12 points 23 hours ago

This is going to become an instant joke and meme. I'm going to make copies of the trophy/medal and send them to people I don't like.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 9 points 23 hours ago

Boy, I wonder who will win.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 8 points 17 hours ago

I wonder if the current FIFA president is in the Epstein files, I'm sure the winner of the prize is

[–] galoisghost@aussie.zone 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It really is well and truly time for some of the bigger football associations to grow a fucking spine and withdraw from FIFA.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 16 hours ago

From what I hear, every big football association is an endless swamp of corruption

The No Balls Peace Prize

Don't I recall FIFA suspending several members for meddling in football by local politicians?
