Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Brace? That's not the verb I would use.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 65 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't know how I'll survive the celebrations, I'm bracing myself.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 month ago

I know how I’ll survive. It’ll be vodka, lots of vodka. That’s how I’ll make it through the celebrations.

[–] Beebabe@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Use ice as a mixer

[–] wavebeam@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

They mean “brace” as in one of those things you attach to act as a support for structural deficiencies. They need to “brace” Nancy because she’s too old to stay upright on her own.

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

Brace yourself for how hard we're gonna party

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

It's the gloves.

"Brace"?? Lmao I can't wait. They sold us out to Trump only to boost their investment portfolios... Good riddance she's leaving. She should have left 25 years ago. As should Schumer.

[–] GreatAspie86@lemy.lol 48 points 1 month ago

There goes the greatest stock trader of our time

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

WHAT? But she's ONLY Almost 90 Years old! She has SO Much Time LEFT to ~~Pad her Portfolio~~ Help her Constituents!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

ELI5: why do people imminent to death grab money? What will they do with it?

[–] drdiddlybadger@pawb.social 20 points 1 month ago

Good Jesus Christ she needs to sit the fuck down.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

She’s moving to a Bloomberg Terminal up-state.

Brace as in brace for all the alcohol I will consume in celebration?

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

"Brace" implies they are completely unprepared and fully expected her to serve 50 more years.

Edit: yeah called it

“I wish she would stay for 10 more years,” said one House Democrat from California.

[–] ShadowRam@fedia.io 8 points 1 month ago

I mean, she's making them a lot money....

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

That House Democrat from California's name? Nancy Pelosi.

(In all seriousness, she's been fairly progressive as far as Dem leadership goes, and would do enough behind the scenes that she would only take a vote when she knows she has the votes. Not a fan of all the insider stock trading by any means. Either way, I wish she had passed the torch years ago along with many others in Washington)

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Fucking GOOD!! You greedy dinosaurs are the reason the Democrats are on life support right now!

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

~~Brace~~ embrace

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

That's a weird way to spell party.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Oh no! What are we going to do with our beloved out of touch gerontocrat?

[–] st3ph3n@midwest.social 8 points 1 month ago

Please, Nancy. Fucking retire.

[–] Nyxias@fedia.io 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thank god. Didn't fight hard enough to get the asshole in power completely impeached when the time was right to.

I'm actually ready to see if the democrats have a spine for a new leader. Schumer should follow her lead too. Time for a new direction.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

She already stepped down as leader in the house. That job was taken up by Jeffries. Who has been entirely useless.

[–] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Just fuck off already. You’ve done enough damage. Staying after you left the house just made things worse. Empower the younger democrats.

[–] SalaciousBCrumb@lemy.lol 4 points 1 month ago

She should be facing life in prison not retirement.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

She is getting old. I understand it.
