Which areas would you like to see developed first. I think encryption for profiles would be a good idea.

It should prioritise on the profile of the user and then the connections between users, which is essentially federation.

Normally you should be hosting your own profile and setting up hosting should be really easy.

Why is profile encryption a first priority? The goal of people on LinkedIn is to be visible. Not that encryption is bad, but its not the most important thing. Consider the goals of such a tool and choose priorities that fulfill that goal. Which would be hosting a resume and discovering+connecting with other people in one's industry.

The goal is to have visibility be granular to the end user to retain privacy from suspicious individuals and groups.

I think front end of some sorts first, i think it would be easier to plan it from there first

What is profile encryption and... Why?

[โ€“] maam@feddit.uk 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That includes someoneโ€™s details and resume.

Isn't the point of Linkedin to have that public?

[โ€“] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Selectively public. Resumes can include real names, addresses, phone numbers, projects you are in charge or involved in, current employers and position. In other words a treasure trove for social engineering.

That information I'd only include in an application or upon request, surely

Linkden also handles application and job postings

[โ€“] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Couldn't an employer just link that to their site?

[โ€“] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly I prefer a common platform for resumes over repeatably applying over and over

I don't think ActivityPub is the correct answer to that. Likely a specific file format for curriculum vitaed

I do agree. I feel like youd need attributes for links to an oracle that actually holds that private data and proof of ID to get some data from said oracle. That could be part of the AP actor data for the professional social media sphere, but I also dont see AP it's self being part of the meet and potatoes of a job application processing site

Linkedin is basically just another microblogging site, really. If everything was federated it probably won't be needed.
