I thought area was for 2D things, and volume is for 3D things? Or does he mean surface area?

Well there's also the fact that this has more to do with biology than geometry. So this guy's a moron on multiple levels.

3D things have both a volume and an area. Like, how much wrapping paper do you need to wrap a gift box?
