Immigration all over the world from regions that have been destabilized for decades (due to the West's interference in addition to local issues*) is scaring all of the MAGA-esque people of each country. Also the LGBTQ stuff is too much change for these people, and so they allow themselves to be grifted by the ultra-wealthy in all of the countries to give away even more of their rights so they can achieve "safety" in their minds.
Fear is the most primal motivator, and while their fears are misplaced, they're being accelerated and exploited by the elite to further divide and conquer. Tale as old as time.

More surveillance doesnt mean more safety. The US's murder resolution rate is 50% despite more surveillance than most countries. Even New York City, a place with an ungodly number of city controlled cameras and even more private cameras STILL has a murder resolution rate of around 50% as well.
And the resolution means a person is arrested and charged. It does not mean convicted. I don't know how often charges are dropped due to changes or acquittals or having a conviction overturned later due to any number of factors. All this means the percentage of solved murders is probably even less.
Wow, lots to unpack here, first, I feel your pain, but I'm from elsewhere, so not the same pain. Seems you misunderstand the idea, surveillance (trading liberty for security) has historically failed to help. The original quote is from Ben Franklin "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." This is an idea aimed at governance, not local security (murder solving percentages and so forth)
Best I can offer from a place where that's not a big thing, is try to make it not a big thing where you are, many societies manage. Happy to try to help, but some context is needed from here.

There is where you lost me. Their fears of... what... exactly? The gay/les/trans agenda? (to not live in hiding and fear of being murdered for whom one likes or loves?) That is not legitimate.
I will seek to understand. I will approach with curiosity. But to say their fears are legitimate is a bridge too far. There is no paradox of tolerance when one side does not agree or adhere to the social contract. That side wants LGBTQ+ people eliminated. They forfeit the social contract.

Nobody in the non-cis-het-normative world is trying to destroy any dam thing. They are trying to live their lives without being killed for it. Nobody is out there killing cis-het couples for being in cis-het relationships.
And where I live, the Amish live in peaceful coexistence with the non-Amish so your nonsequitir doesn't even make sense. Hell, the Amish have agreements with folks that drive them around.

Grifters are seeing how easily he gets away with everything, and they all want in on the scam.
It has been spreading quietly for decades.
Now that it's become emboldened by Trump's outrageous public behaviour we see eruptions of it everywhere.
Seeing a politician behave in a manner that was seen as unthinkable even a few years prior does a lot to change what people think is possible.
More to the point, seeing him get away with it allows other shitty people to expand what they expect to be able to also do without reprocussions.

I'm an American, so I kind of have to pay attention to my own country's politics first. Do some people not pay attention to their own country's politics? I'd probably worry about my own country's problems before another one's. Don't get me wrong, it's good to stay informed about the whole world, but everyone should be keeping track of their own country first.
Yes, most people do, but if you come onto an international space like this, you'll find more American news than news from your own country. So many people are more informed about American politics than their own unless they take an interest in politics. For this, I mean the game and industry of politics. The issues, people are generally across, for their one life and own country.
Most people (I would say 90%) are not what we would call 'political junkies'.
The only time they seriously think about anything political is when it effects them directly.
I probably devote more time than the average schmuck to politics because I operate my own business and I can set my own hours (plus, fall-winter is quiet in my line of work).
But for most people who work 12 months of the year, they are too tired at the end of the workday to care about whether or not fascism is slowly taking over, because the kids need to get to karate class, dinner needs to be made, and they need to sit down and forget about the horrible incident at work today. So I get why most people only really pay attention to politics when it is dressed up as entertainment.
It is a sad indictment of society that life is this way for so many of us, because it just allows the powers that be to keep their boots firmly on our collective necks.
Can't wait to ask them why they didn't do anything to stop it like they all like to tell Americans everyday.
Today is election day in the Netherlands. PVV is slated to lose chairs. But I am hoping the polls didn't suffer from the silent right voter phenomenon.

I remember many years ago (like in 2016 or 2017) a Japanese fascist railed at me that they dont want millions of blacks in their country... I found his writing style to he very Japanese. In that he was saying stupid and abhorrent stuff, but was still very polite in that he was saying please in places you wouldn't expect to find in such a speech.
Even more recently Korean nationals are really hating on black people... like why? There are barely any in their country and those that are aren't some ghetto gangsters. They are the wealthier and more educated blacks.

And yet so many people on the left/liberal are totally blind to the total failure of this. They are totally deluded that their 'values' are self-justifying to the general population, and that if the population doesn't agree, they are wrong. That isn't how politics works. You can't shame your voters into voting for you, you have to give them policies to vote for.

They mean better to the average voter. Even a bad idea sometimes sounds better than no idea. People are upset, they're skipping Halloween this year. My elderly neighbor is afraid to turn on her furnace, another retired friend just told me her utilities were cut today. This has been getting worse and worse for years now. People want to hear zany, pie in the sky ideas, and they want stimulus checks. And they're voting like it.

Why do you think Mandani is kicking ass in NYC? He is offering solutions to problems. He probably won't even be able to delivery on the majority of it... but he is actually offering the average NYC voters something and listening to them and appealing to their concerns... and focusing on real practical issues that impact the majority... not social bullshit over miniorities.
