The only "pushback" from the Mayor or Governor that I'll respect is if Police arrest National Guardsmen who break the law (it's inevitable they'll break the law). Otherwise, they're cowards at best and complicit at worse.

Didn't it take the Allies marching on Berlin for that to happen? Why would Trump have to worry about that?

I hope Portland gives any illegally deployed military units in their city hell.
The very best thing Portland can do is leave them be. Let them stand around aimlessly. Taking the bait and engaging with them will only provide the Fox News crowd with validation. It will further trump’s goal of drawing the us into civil war so he can truly become king.
I agree but fox is gonna spin it the way they want no matter what. I bet some troop is gonna trip on a curb and fall over unharmed while noone is around but fox will show a super edited clip saying" antifa has attacked our soldiers!!!" "War on the streets of Portland with antifa!!!!"
The viewers capable of critical thought (admittedly the probability is low) will hopefully see through it. They’re not getting their Pearl Harbor moment in Portland.
Normalizing their presence is absolutely not the “best” thing they could do.
