Overview: Denmark's largest arms procurement

Denmark will spend DKK 58 billion on a new terrester-based air defence.

The parties behind the defence settlement have agreed to buy two Franco-Italian SAMp/T systems, and six middle rows from a yet-to-be-contual European supplier.

This deselects the U.S. Patriot system, which is the most tested Western air defense system. There is too long a wait for the U.S. system, the statement reads.

According to Defence Chief Michael Hyldgaard, the new air defense will be present throughout Denmark.

The first of the new systems is expected to be active during this year, while more will follow in the coming years until all systems are to be operational by 2028 or 2029.

This is USD 9,1 billion, and this is only the initial order, over the years this is supposed to be expanded.
Traditionally Denmark has overwhelmingly bought US made weapons, so completely abandoning Patriot is very noticeable, especially since we use F35 fighter jets, and Patriot and F35 are designed to work together.

Personally I am extremely happy that our government did not choose American, although the US congress just a few days ago passed an offer for Denmark to buy Patriot for a similar amount.

Over here in Trumpistan I have to tell you that while of course I want US businesses to succeed in the abstract, I am very happy for Trump's trade and foreign policies to be having the effect they very logically should be having (OP) instead of what Trump has claimed.

The thing that may be his undoing is he does all the other shit wrong and also wants to kill all the undesirables. If he was really good at making everything else in the country smooth and awesome and was still trying to kill the undesirables it would snuff out the last bit of hope I have that this will end without 1861 2.0. I think if he was competent in other areas we have learned that a very scary percentage of people are willing to go "go ahead and kill them all as long as you promise me comfort."

From what I understand Trump is losing popularity fast ATM.
But as the Trump administration is fast getting ever closer to becoming a factual dictatorship, popularity becomes less relevant.

Over here in Denmark, that used to be one of Europe's strongest allies to USA. I have loaded up on popcorn and am following what happens. Sadly I must admit that I no longer have much hope for USA, because the problem isn't really Trump, it's the American population misled by propaganda from Republicans and the likes of the Koch family and FOX news, which is illegal to call themselves news outside USA, because it's a lying propaganda channel.

I think that maybe a revolution against the 1% and their mindless followers is necessary. But that requires that the population wakes up, and actually begin to realize what's going on, and why for instance USA is the only western democracy that doesn't have healthcare for all, while at the same time being the most expensive healthcare system.
There are so many ways USA is falling behind for the average population, healthcare, life expectancy, quality of life, freedom of the press (while at the same time they are allowed to spew lies!), lack of holidays for common workers, almost non existent union rights, with every advantage tilted towers cooperations.
As I see it, USA has become a dysfunctional society, because it has a dysfunctional 2 party democracy, with only 2 right wing parties, one of them center right and the other extreme right.

How is that solved without rebellion? When not even the saner side of the political spectrum wishes to give up a flawed system that used to give them about half the power of the country. Except now the insane side is no longer satisfied with half, they want it all and to be completely unopposed.

I used to love USA, and what it used to stand for, or maybe rather what I mistakenly thought it stood for, but about 30 years ago with George HW Bush, I began to see things were not well politically over there. And it's been sad to see it getting ever worse.
Further and further away from humanitarian values and human rights. Even Obama was way off on that, claiming that secret laws, with secret courts, and secret very limited political supervision allowing secret organizations to violate human rights and privacy rights, that he called a "hitting a fair balance". Even Obama wasn't really a moderate, he too had the fascist tendencies we now see blow up in America, because Americans for decades have been too blind to see it and do anything to prevent it from getting worse.

I haven't met a regretful Trump voter yet. Go beneath the surface of one of those articles about how Trump's base is deserting him and see if you can find one where it's more than a single digit number of disgruntled X users.

Those articles may be put forth in good faith, but from what I can tell the authors typically suffer from the same thing the rest of us do - we keep thinking there is something awful enough that Trump supporters will turn on him. Despite everything that transpired from 2016 through 2024, we all keep being foolish enough to think there is anything bad enough for Republicans to put country, or even basic humanity, ahead of Trump.

Sorry, there's not.

The oligarchs might turn on him though. No one lasts long once their ponzi scheme starts being impacted. And that's exactly what his trade policies and foreign policies are doing.

I think that maybe a revolution against the 1% and their mindless followers is necessary.

I think maybe it's too late. I also think if it's not too late (checks outside) doesn't look like it's coming any time soon. We've all got jobs to go to and kids to feed and healthcare bills to pay for. 2020 was as big as it was for as long as it was because so many people couldn't go to work anyway. Trumpistan won't look like that again until things get much, much worse.

The more important that with a dwining Trump popularity, the desinformation source gets strangled by the root, and that people get called to seize ICE's and the military's access to weaponry. The people must rise up to protect American democracy against fascists.

@wildflower That's good news. I hope others will follow suit, because supporting local production and developing know-how should be a priority for everyone in the EU.

And like having things you can actually use if you need them. I know it's not very important but still. /s

This deselects the U.S. Patriot system, which is the most tested Western air defense system.

Qatar had American Patriot and THAAD defenses and Israรซl could strike anyway with nothing being shot down.

Probably more reliable and wonโ€™t turn on you when you need them.

Funny how when a fascist nation insisted on buying their fascist products, the world turns its head.

I wish Canada would do the same.

Fuck Donald Trumps America.

Finally. I was wondering why the didnโ€™t do that earlier. Please add them to the skyshield initiative, too.
