24 years, 40 million Canadians, enough payout for each person to buy two or three loaves of bread.

$500 million is a good place to start, but that should be per quarter for the next 24 years.

That would be an actual deterrent? Stop being crazy

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No kidding.. I go through close to a loaf a day, a potential $25 refund after 24 years isn't even a drop in the bucket compared to what they've banked from that.

Hold on

You eat an entire loaf of bread a day?

Oh -_-

I can easily polish off a loaf a day just by myself, (not that I always do) but if you include my two kids over that 24 years the final tally would probably average well over one a day.

A family eating a whole loaf is totally understandable, I thought you meant you just house a loaf of bread to yourself each day, to which I say "that is not healthy for birds" lmao

Instead of each of us getting a pittance, can't we just have all the people involved in the price fixing stripped of everything they own and forced to live on the street or something?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Or,you know, jail them? When I commit a crime, I get jailed. Can we please do the same with rich assholes?

Yeah, but then our tax money is paying for their asses and they still win. I'm all for taxes, but I've given these fucks more than enough support. They can pull up their bootstraps and find some real jobs (or enjoy life on the street).

But come on the c suite gets all the credit when things are good. But have no idea how that could have happened when something bad happens. I mean which is it they are responsible for everything the company does or they are not.

That feels better then the 30 cent check I'm going to get

I was ripped off way more than what I'd get back. Scammers win again!

No payment will be made if the amount is less than $5.

Don't spread the word too much...

Where did you read that? I'm only seeing it for people who already received a $25 card from Loblaws.

The law firms said Thursday that customers who previously received the $25 Loblaw card may submit a claim for additional compensation, but they will only be paid an incremental amount if there are sufficient settlement funds available.

They will also only receive additional compensation if the amount is more than the $5 minimum payment threshold set for the settlement.

From the registration page under "Important Notes".

Where would the money go if that happens?

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

Probably the lawyers
