FYI - links to the gore video will be removed if it is not properly marked as NSFW/NSFL.

Yes, it's bad. This is not like the Trump "maybe it was faked with razor blades" kind of thing.

I abhor violence and I don’t want this to ever be considered normal or acceptable. Once again, we need actual gun regulation in this country.

That being said, fuck that guy in particular. He, his ideology, and the causes he advocates for are monstrous and no amount of violence against him should be used to wash any of that away. Make no mistake, his political ideology has helped build the society that is making this kind of horror more commonplace. Let’s not forget, the society that HE is helping to build is largely accepting of gun violence toward children, not to mention many others.

This fucker was lying about trans people, saying they are more likely than white men to commit mass shootings, right before he was shot.

He was perpetrating politcal violence against a marginalized minority when political violence silenced him. I don't think this is a good situation (overall as a nation and a society) but this is very much a live by the sword die by the sword moment.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Just think he died with a lie on his lips. Its okay though because he has asked the sky wizard to forgive him for all his sins.

I don't abhor it. It's the only language some people understand and we've been placated and lied to since forever that "it doesn't solve anything"

If it doesn't solve anything then why do we have armies?

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It’s funny that violence is fine when the US government is assassinating an iranian general., but is abhorent and deplorable when someone assassinates a propagandist who helped destroy american democracy. It’s like the US has a standard, but it’s like, doubled in some way…

[–] Feyd@programming.dev 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

They aren't against violence. They just want a monopoly on it.

audible gasp

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

In the end, all laws are enforced by gun.

The irony of him talking about shootings in America and then the shot rings out.

That is just…a little too convenient?

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (5 children)

That is just…a little too convenient?

Too convenient? It's an assassination ~~attempt~~, of course it's convenient, it's deliberate.

We just don't know what the exact motive was, or if there even was one. There's a lot of information we're missing.

Quote from the guy:

The Second Amendment is not about hunting. I love hunting. The Second Amendment is not even about personal defense. That is important. The Second Amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government.

So does this count as defense against a tyrannical government? Given that he's a propagandist / mouthpiece for the current said government causing harm to countless humans right now.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

That's not even true. The reason for the second amendment is clearly spelled out in the amendment itself. The part that everyone seems to ignore.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State...

It was intended as a way for us to have an army available on short notice without having to maintain a standing army.

Charlie Kirk Says Gun Deaths ‘Unfortunately’ Worth it to Keep 2nd Amendment

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 35 points 5 days ago

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person I guess? He's super pro gun and "taking things in your own hands", so I guess he got what he was asking for.

Thoughts and prayers.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago (7 children)

Authoritarians use shit like this as fuel to crack down harder.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 59 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Yeah, but they use anything and everything as fuel to crack down harder and will only keep cracking down harder and harder until they implode. Other than the talking points people will spout this eveng doesn't actually change anything about our situation.

They do that anyway tbh, it's not like they'll just be nice if nothing ever happens during their time in power

My non-mod opinion on this:

Trump is posting Kirk is dead.

Not going to celebrate, just noting:

"I can't stand the word 'empathy', I think it's a made up New Age term." - Charlie Kirk

May the gods judge him fairly in accordance with the life he lived. I bear no further ill will towards him and wish him well in his coming journey. I'm grateful he has stopped hurting people and only wish it had happened differently

[–] kofe@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 16 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (4 children)

Is the prick dead or not? This article seems more like it wants to fellate republicans who are posting their literal thoughts and prayers for their scumbag friend.

[–] mcbenavides85@piefed.social 17 points 5 days ago

Judging from video, he looks pretty dead.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Unknown at this time, but the video is super bad.

I saw an unironic comment on one of the outlets reporting the shooting, and it was "All the liberal violence has got to end".

I mean....WTAF? No one even knows who the shooter is yet, do they? And how many instances are there of liberal violence?

I bet that same dipstick thinks that J6, the Proud Boys, The 3%ers, the Oathkeepers, and all the other right-wing domestic terrorist groups, are all fine, too....

What’s near the neck? The head? The chest? Trachea?

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 5 days ago

They would have said in the brain, but that requires brain to be there

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It looked to be in his left side of the neck to me. Very severe shot. This is not a Trump "well, maybe he faked it with razor blades" kind of thing. Dude was straight up shot in the neck.

"Utah Valley University spokeswoman Ellen Treanor has confirmed to the New York Times that Charlie Kirk was struck by a gunman positioned in the Losee Center, a building approximately 200 yards from the event site."

Unlike Mr.Kirk, I'm in favor of much stronger gun control, but that was quite an accurate shot, harmed nobody else, and well timed for context. Unlike the idiots trying to shoot Trump and either killing another person or not even getting a shot off

Ya know I've been saying for years the best way to remove Republican influence is to put the propagandists to the sword. Thusly I am not only fully okay with this, I fucken support it.
